Mumbai’s airport capacity constraints are accelerating the shift of dedicated cargo operations to Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), as limited availability of ad-hoc slots at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport coincides with planned infrastructure works. The transition is gaining pace in August, with NMIA targeting a complete shift of dedicated freighter operations from Mumbai by 26 August. The new airport has already received its first international freighter from Hong Kong and is expected to add 13 international cargo services. The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has invited single women living within its jurisdiction to register for benefits under welfare schemes being developed as part of Maharashtra’s proposed policy for single women. The initiative follows a May 22, 2026 government resolution issued by the Women and Child Development Department, which established a committee to prepare a policy addressing the social, economic, educational, legal, health and rehabilitation-related concerns of single women. NMMC has asked eligible women to register at their nearest ward office by August 25, 2026. The category includes widows, legally divorced women, abandoned women, unmarried adult women living alone, and women with disabilities or others living alone due to difficult circumstances. The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has completed the digitisation of enumeration forms collected under the Election Commission of India’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, with draft voter lists scheduled for publication on August 24, 2026. In the Airoli Assembly constituency, 2,78,228 of 4,97,380 registered voters had submitted enumeration forms and completed the digitisation process by August 17. In Belapur, 2,56,986 of 4,22,317 voters had submitted their forms, with digitisation also completed. Voters will have until September 23 to submit claims or objections regarding the draft rolls. The period for disposal of these claims and objections will run until October 22, while the final electoral rolls are scheduled to be published on October 27.Read more

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) conducted a special cancer screening campaign across its jurisdiction from August 3 to 11, 2026, using a government-provided mobile cancer screening van. The initiative was carried out through NMMC’s urban primary health centres as an extension of the National Non-Communicable Disease Screening Programme, under which residents aged 30 years and above are routinely screened for conditions including hypertension, diabetes and three major cancers. During the special campaign, 1,292 residents underwent screening for oral, breast and cervical cancer at locations across Navi Mumbai. The civic body has urged residents who could not participate in the mobile drive to use free screening services available at NMMC hospitals and urban primary health centres.Read more

Navi Mumbai has evolved from a planned satellite city into an established urban and business centre, with large-scale infrastructure playing a central role in expanding its real estate market. Projects including the Atal Setu, Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1, suburban rail network and Sion-Panvel Highway have improved connectivity and supported development across new corridors. Upcoming and regional projects, including the Navi Mumbai Coastal Road, additional metro lines, water taxi services, the 126-km Virar–Alibaug Multimodal Corridor and Panvel–Karjat Suburban Rail Corridor, are expected to further integrate the region. Residential, commercial and mixed-use development has expanded into locations such as Ulwe, Panvel, Pushpak Nagar, Dronagiri and Upper Kharghar, while established employment hubs continue to support housing demand. Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has cautioned candidates participating in its 2025-26 direct recruitment process against relying on unauthorised messages claiming that the Junior Engineer (Electrical) examination result has been declared and appointments have been made. The civic body said it had advertised 132 vacant posts across 20 Group A, Group B and Group C cadres in December 2025 and received 19,220 applications. Online objective multiple-choice examinations for six cadres were conducted through Tata Consultancy Services (TCS iON) across 13 centres in six districts in July. The corporation said some candidates had received fraudulent emails asking them to pay INR 9,373 as a processing fee for original document verification. NMMC clarified that no such communication had been issued by its administration and urged candidates to report such demands to local police.Read more

Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) removed 1,23,117 mosquito breeding sites during a joint cleanliness and preventive health campaign conducted from July 30 to August 10, 2026. The drive was organised by the civic body's Health Department and Solid Waste Management Department under the ‘Safai Apnao, Bimari Bhagao’ campaign of Swachh Survekshan. Teams from 26 civic health centres worked with mosquito larva control, rodent control and sanitation staff to undertake intensive cleaning and preventive measures. The campaign included removal of scrap, cleaning of clogged drains, mosquito larvicide spraying, minor engineering repairs and rodent control measures. Discarded tyres, coconut shells, plastic containers, broken pots and other waste capable of collecting stagnant water were permanently removed. NMMC has urged residents to keep their homes and surrounding areas clean and dispose of scrap responsibly.Read more

Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) schools organised a tricolour rakhi-making activity under the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ initiative to encourage awareness of the national flag and foster a sense of patriotism among students. The activity was conducted in primary and secondary schools under the guidance of class teachers, with students bringing the required materials themselves. Teachers explained the significance of the saffron, white and green colours of the national flag, along with the Ashoka Chakra and its 24 spokes. The initiative also introduced students to the history and symbolism of the national flag while providing them with a hands-on activity centred on the colours of the Tricolour. A large number of students participated in making the rakhis as part of the school-level programme.Read more

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has announced August 17 as the final deadline for voters to submit enumeration forms under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The revision exercise began on June 30, and voters who fail to submit their forms to their Booth Level Officer (BLO) by the extended deadline risk having their names excluded from the draft electoral roll. They would then have to submit Form 6 and complete the enrolment process afresh to have their names included again. To assist voters, special SIR camps will operate at 179 locations on August 8 and 9. Additional evening camps will also be held in parts of the Airoli constituency where form collection and digitisation remain comparatively low. The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation’s Standing Committee has approved a series of civic infrastructure works covering sewage treatment, flood protection, water supply, chlorination, drainage, footpaths and urban beautification. The approved works include upgrades to the 100 MLD sewage treatment plant in Sector 50, Nerul, supported by INR 8 crore in incentive funding under the Centre’s AMRUT 2.0 ‘Jal Hi Amrut’ initiative. Other sanctioned projects include a flap gate at Sanpada, a protective room for 33kV feeder panels at CBD Belapur, a chlorine unit at Vashi, replacement of an 800mm-diameter water pipeline near Pawane and improvements to Rock Garden in Nerul. The committee has also approved road beautification between Mahape Bridge and Digha, drainage and footpath repairs in Airoli settlements, and upgrades to drainage and footpaths in Nerul Sector 46.Read more

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has announced that its next monthly Lokshahi Din (Public Grievance Day) will be held on September 7, 2026, at the civic headquarters in CBD Belapur. Citizens wishing to present personal grievances must submit applications in the prescribed format by August 21. The application form is available on the NMMC website as well as at the Public Relations Department of the municipal headquarters. The civic body has clarified that only individual grievances relating to a single department will be considered, while court matters, revenue appeals and service-related issues will remain outside the scope of the programme.Read more

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has disconnected water and sewerage connections to several buildings classified as C1, the highest-risk category of dangerous structures, as part of efforts to prevent accidents during the monsoon. Acting on directions from Maharashtra Chief Minister and Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde, Additional Municipal Commissioner Dr Rahul Gethe led inspections across Belapur, Nerul, Vashi and Koparkhairane. The civic body had earlier appealed to residents to vacate these buildings owing to their unsafe condition. The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has announced that the deadline for submitting Enumeration Forms under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls has been extended to 17 August 2026 following directions from the Election Commission of India. The revision exercise, linked to the electoral roll qualifying date of 1 October 2026, has been underway since 30 June through Booth Level Officers (BLOs). The revised schedule also postpones electoral roll restructuring and subsequent stages of the revision process. Navi Mumbai Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde has directed civic departments to intensify measures to improve public safety and urban management, with particular emphasis on evacuating highly dangerous C1-category buildings and removing abandoned structures. During a departmental review meeting, the Commissioner instructed officials to disconnect electricity, water and sewerage services to unsafe buildings and expedite evacuation measures. He also ordered fire safety audits of coaching centres, the formulation of a policy for hoardings, stronger action against unauthorised hawkers, improved road maintenance through technology, stricter solid waste management compliance, and enhanced monitoring of public amenities. The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) will organise a series of public participation programmes as part of the Centre's Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, scheduled from August 9 to 17. The inaugural service handled around 20 tonnes of cargo, including general cargo, perishables and bonded transfer shipments from Mumbai and Ahmedabad.
