India's industrial and warehousing sector recorded approximately 21.9 million sq ft of Grade A leasing across the top eight cities during the first half of 2026, reflecting a 12% year-on-year increase, according to Colliers. Delhi NCR and Chennai together contributed more than 45% of the total absorption, while third-party logistics (3PL) companies remained the largest occupier segment, accounting for 30% of leasing activity. Engineering and e-commerce firms also recorded strong demand. New Grade A supply reached 24.7 million sq ft during the period, surpassing leasing activity and resulting in a marginal increase in vacancy levels to 17.2%. Despite global supply chain disruptions during the second quarter, occupier demand remained resilient, supported by domestic manufacturing growth and infrastructure-led development.Read more

Flipkart has announced plans to further expand its long-term investments in West Bengal by strengthening its supply chain infrastructure, seller ecosystem and skill development initiatives. The Walmart-owned e-commerce company said the state, which houses its largest fulfilment centre in India at Haringhata, will remain a key part of its growth strategy. The company currently operates more than 300 logistics facilities across West Bengal, supports over 120,000 jobs, and has expanded Flipkart Minutes with 90 micro fulfilment centres. Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) has initiated the development of a 62-acre automated empty container yard near Nhava Sheva through a long-term concession with Dubai-based RSA Global. The INR 2,580 crore project, located within the JNPA estate at Uran in Raigad district, aims to modernise empty container handling, reduce road congestion and improve cargo movement at India's largest container port. Designed to handle more than 50,000 TEUs every month, the facility will consolidate storage, maintenance and repair operations while supporting port-led logistics infrastructure. The project is expected to generate around 750 direct and indirect jobs and strengthen freight efficiency across western, northern and central India.Read more

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari reviewed the progress of multi-modal logistics parks (MMLPs), ropeway projects, intermodal stations and wayside amenities being developed across India during a meeting of the National Highways Logistics Management Ltd (NHLML). The review focused on project implementation, multimodal connectivity and infrastructure delivery. Gadkari assessed project-specific challenges and directed stakeholders to address execution bottlenecks on priority to accelerate completion. French shipping and logistics group CMA CGM has agreed to acquire FedEx Supply Chain, the third-party logistics arm of FedEx, for an enterprise value of USD 1.4 billion, marking a significant expansion of its contract logistics operations in North America. The acquisition, announced during the past week, will be executed through CMA CGM subsidiary CEVA Logistics and is expected to close later this year, subject to regulatory approvals. India's industrial and logistics sector recorded gross absorption of 34.8 million sq ft during the first half of 2026, registering a modest 2.4% year-on-year increase, according to Savills India.
