The Standing Committee of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has approved several civic infrastructure proposals covering water supply, sewage treatment, drainage, flood protection, pedestrian facilities and urban beautification. The proposals were approved unanimously under the chairmanship of Standing Committee chairman Ashok Bhauso Patil. 
One of the approved works involves upgrading the municipal sewage treatment plant in Sector 50, Nerul. The 100 million litres per day (MLD) facility has received a five-star rating and INR 8 crore in incentive funding under the Centre’s AMRUT 2.0 programme and its ‘Jal Hi Amrut’ initiative. The committee has approved the installation of new pumping machinery and associated works at the plant using the sanctioned incentive grant. 
A flood-protection work has also been approved at Sector 20, Sanpada, next to the sewage treatment plant near Kesar Solitaire. The city is located below sea level, making flood protection important during periods of heavy rainfall coinciding with high tide. The INR 28.11 lakh project involves constructing plum concrete and installing a 900mm flap gate to prevent tidal water from entering the city. 
At the Sector 28 CBD Belapur pump house, the civic body has approved expenditure of INR 85.99 lakh for constructing a dedicated room to protect newly installed 33kV indoor feeder panels. Water from the pump house is transferred to the MBR at Parsik Hill and subsequently pumped at high pressure for distribution from Belapur to Airoli. Five new breaker panel units have already been installed at the facility, requiring additional protection infrastructure. 
The committee has also sanctioned INR 25.08 lakh for establishing a chlorine unit plant at Sector 16, Vashi, along with associated works. The facility is intended to enable appropriate chlorine dosing along the Morbe main water pipeline between Vashi and Mahape Junction. 
Existing chlorine units are located at the Bhokarpada water treatment plant, the CBD Sector 28 pump house and beneath the Mahape Bridge. The distance between the Sector 28 CBD pump house and Mahape Junction is around 14 km. The additional Vashi unit is intended to help maintain appropriate chlorine levels beyond Vashi’s Arenja Corner, particularly during the monsoon. 
Another INR 33.79 lakh project has been approved for replacing an 800mm-diameter mild steel water pipeline and carrying out associated works along Thane-Belapur Road opposite Pawane village. 
The Standing Committee has also approved INR 1.73 crore for improvements at Rock Garden in Sector 21, Nerul. The garden attracts a large number of visitors, but its internal pathways, gazebo and walls have deteriorated. The approved works will address these infrastructure deficiencies. 
An INR 1.30 crore proposal for urban beautification works along Thane-Belapur Road between Mahape Bridge and Digha has also received approval. The works form part of the civic body’s efforts to improve the appearance and associated infrastructure along the corridor. 
In Airoli, INR 1.1497 crore has been approved for repairs to drains and footpaths in Sainathwadi, including Vitthal Chawl, Samrat Seva Sangh, Gurudev Datt Chawl and Omkar Chawl. The settlements have narrow lanes through which multiple utility lines run. Repeated maintenance and repair work involving excavation has left several footpaths uneven and damaged, affecting pedestrian movement. 
The proposal also addresses drainage deficiencies in parts of these settlements, where the absence of drains in some locations has resulted in inadequate wastewater disposal. The approved works are intended to improve drainage and pedestrian infrastructure in the affected areas. 
In Nerul Sector 46, the committee has sanctioned INR 1.5289 crore for improvements to drainage and footpaths between Gehelot Majesty and the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) office. The existing drain slab in the area had previously collapsed, while other slabs had weakened. The approved work will address the condition of the drain and adjoining pedestrian infrastructure. 
The Standing Committee said the approved works collectively cover essential civic services and infrastructure requirements across different parts of Navi Mumbai, with projects addressing water supply and treatment, monsoon-related flood protection, drainage, pedestrian movement, public spaces and urban beautification.
