The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has intensified city-wide cleanliness and public awareness campaigns under the 'Safai Apnao, Bimari Bhagao' and 'Catch the Rain' initiatives as part of the Swachh Survekshan 2025–26 programme. The special drives, being conducted from 16 to 31 July 2026 under the guidance of Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde, focus on improving sanitation at railway stations, highways, slum areas, villages, water bodies and public toilets. Joint campaigns by the Solid Waste Management and Health Departments have also targeted mosquito prevention and public health awareness, while educational institutions and residential societies have been engaged to promote waste segregation, rainwater harvesting and plastic waste reduction.
The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has launched an extensive cleanliness and public awareness campaign across the city under the 'Safai Apnao, Bimari Bhagao' and 'Catch the Rain' initiatives as part of the Swachh Survekshan 2025–26 programme. The special campaign is being implemented between 16 and 31 July 2026 under the directions of Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde, with the objective of strengthening public participation in sanitation and environmental conservation.
The campaign is being carried out under the supervision of Additional Commissioner Sunil Pawar and Deputy Commissioner (Solid Waste Management) Dr Ajay Gadde. In line with the framework issued under the Swachh Bharat Mission, the civic body has prioritised intensive cleaning operations at railway stations, City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) Transit Utility (CTU) areas, the Sion–Panvel Highway, slum settlements, village and gaothan areas, lakes, creek shorelines, public and community toilets, and back lanes behind residential and commercial buildings.
As part of the initiative, the Solid Waste Management Department and the Health Department conducted joint cleanliness and public health drives in the Airoli, Digha and Turbhe ward office jurisdictions, including the Bindu Madhav Nagar and Krishna Wadi localities. The civic body undertook thorough cleaning of slum and village areas while simultaneously identifying locations vulnerable to waterlogging and carrying out anti-mosquito spraying to reduce the risk of vector-borne diseases.
NMMC also organised awareness programmes aimed at encouraging greater community participation in sanitation initiatives. At Bharati Vidyapeeth College of Engineering in Belapur, students were sensitised to the importance of source-level waste segregation, plastic waste reduction and the prevention of communicable diseases. The programme focused on segregating waste into four categories and promoting responsible waste management practices among young citizens.
In a parallel initiative under the 'Catch the Rain' campaign, awareness programmes were conducted at Shakuntala Co-operative Society and the NMMC School in Koparkhairane. The campaign highlighted the importance of rainwater harvesting alongside household waste segregation, plastic waste management and disease prevention measures.
Officials from the Solid Waste Management Department, including sanitation officers, sanitation inspectors and Swachhta Doots, participated in the awareness drives. The municipal corporation said the campaigns form part of its wider efforts to improve sanitation standards, strengthen environmental sustainability and encourage active public participation as Navi Mumbai prepares for the Swachh Survekshan 2025–26 assessment.
