The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) will organise a series of public participation programmes as part of the Centre's Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, scheduled from August 9 to 17. The initiative, undertaken in accordance with Central and Maharashtra government directives, aims to encourage citizens to hoist the national flag and participate in awareness activities marking the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram. The civic body will conduct flag rallies, cleanliness drives, exhibitions, cultural programmes and school-based activities across the city. It will also establish dedicated counters at ward offices to make the national flag available to residents at concessional rates and encourage wider community participation.
The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) will organise a range of public participation activities across the city as part of the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, which will be observed from August 9 to 17 in line with directives issued by the Central and Maharashtra governments. The initiative forms part of the nationwide programme launched in 2022 under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations to promote awareness of the Indian national flag and foster a sense of patriotism among citizens.
According to the civic body, this year's campaign has been linked with the 150th anniversary of the national song Vande Mataram. In addition, August 14 will be observed as Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, in accordance with government instructions.
Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde recently chaired a review meeting to assess preparations for the campaign. During the meeting, he directed the concerned departments to organise activities in accordance with government guidelines under the supervision of Additional Municipal Commissioner Sunil Pawar.
As part of the campaign, residents, commercial establishments and offices have been encouraged to hoist the national flag between August 9 and 17. The civic body has also appealed to citizens to participate in the Selfie with Tiranga initiative by uploading photographs with the national flag on social media using the hashtag #HarGharTiranga2026. Citizens have also been urged to register as volunteers through the Har Ghar Tiranga portal and download volunteer certificates.
To facilitate public participation, NMMC will set up dedicated counters at its ward offices to make the national flag available to residents at concessional rates during the campaign period.
Educational institutions across the city will organise Tiranga rallies, painting and essay competitions, along with other awareness activities aimed at encouraging patriotic values among students. At the civic headquarters level, Tiranga rallies and Tiranga cycle rallies are planned in the presence of Mayor Sujata Patil, elected representatives and municipal office-bearers, with participation from local residents.
The Solid Waste Management Department will simultaneously conduct the Har Ghar Tiranga – Har Ghar Swachhta campaign, focusing on cleanliness initiatives with active community participation.
The municipal corporation headquarters and other prominent civic buildings will be illuminated in the colours of the national flag, while a large tricolour rangoli will be created at the headquarters to convey the message of national unity.
NMMC will also organise exhibitions prepared by the Government of India on Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, Har Ghar Tiranga and Vande Mataram. In addition, cultural programmes involving students and residents have been planned as part of the Independence Day celebrations.
The civic body said the campaign will be implemented across Navi Mumbai through a series of activities designed to encourage participation from students, women, senior citizens and other sections of society during the August 9–17 period.
