The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has invited single women living within its jurisdiction to register for benefits under welfare schemes being developed as part of Maharashtra’s proposed policy for single women. The initiative follows a May 22, 2026 government resolution issued by the Women and Child Development Department, which established a committee to prepare a policy addressing the social, economic, educational, legal, health and rehabilitation-related concerns of single women. NMMC has asked eligible women to register at their nearest ward office by August 25, 2026. The category includes widows, legally divorced women, abandoned women, unmarried adult women living alone, and women with disabilities or others living alone due to difficult circumstances. The civic body has also provided ward-wise contact details of its social workers and group organisers for further information.
The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has appealed to single women residing within its jurisdiction to register at their nearest ward office by August 25, 2026, to access welfare schemes being planned under Maharashtra’s proposed policy for single women. The initiative follows a government resolution issued by the state Women and Child Development Department on May 22, 2026, establishing a committee to prepare a comprehensive policy for the welfare and empowerment of single women.
The proposed policy is intended to examine the social, economic, educational, legal, health and rehabilitation-related issues faced by single women across Maharashtra. It also seeks to facilitate more effective access to schemes administered by different government departments and introduce measures aimed at their empowerment.
NMMC has included several categories of women within the definition of single women for the registration exercise. These include widows whose husbands have died; divorced women who have been legally separated from their husbands; abandoned women who have been left by their husbands without formal separation or have otherwise been deserted; unmarried adult women who have never married and live alone; and women with disabilities or others who are living alone because of physical disability or difficult circumstances.
The civic body has asked eligible women in Navi Mumbai to visit their nearest NMMC ward office and register themselves as single women. The registration deadline has been set for August 25, after which the information is expected to support implementation of welfare measures under the proposed policy.
For women living in the Belapur and Nerul divisions, NMMC has designated social worker Dadasaheb Bhosale as a contact person. Group organisers Smita Vyavhare and Santosh Supe are responsible for Belapur, while Gajanan Chavan, Vijay Chavan and Anita More are listed for Nerul.
In the Vashi and Turbhe divisions, social worker Priyanka Patil has been designated for assistance. Kiran Vishwasrao and Anupama Arkade are the group organisers for Vashi, while Priti Datar and Santosh Gavit are assigned to Turbhe.
For Koparkhairane and Ghansoli, social worker Sunder Pardeshi is the designated contact. Santosh More and Nilima Dhongde are the group organisers for Koparkhairane, while Pratiksha Hundare and Hemant Parte are assigned to Ghansoli.
In the Airoli and Digha divisions, social worker Mithun Mhatre is available for assistance. Jignesh Deorukhkar, Bharat Benke and Kavita Patil are the group organisers for Airoli, while Swapnali Mhatre and Manohar Raut are assigned to Digha.
NMMC has advised eligible single women to complete their registration within the prescribed period to facilitate their access to welfare measures proposed under the state’s single-women policy. The exercise is being undertaken within the civic body’s jurisdiction as part of the broader state-level process to identify and address the requirements of single women.
