Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) schools organised a tricolour rakhi-making activity under the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ initiative to encourage awareness of the national flag and foster a sense of patriotism among students. The activity was conducted in primary and secondary schools under the guidance of class teachers, with students bringing the required materials themselves. Teachers explained the significance of the saffron, white and green colours of the national flag, along with the Ashoka Chakra and its 24 spokes. The initiative also introduced students to the history and symbolism of the national flag while providing them with a hands-on activity centred on the colours of the Tricolour. A large number of students participated in making the rakhis as part of the school-level programme.
Students from primary and secondary schools run by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) participated in a tricolour rakhi-making activity under the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ initiative, with the programme aimed at creating awareness about the national flag and encouraging patriotic sentiment among children.
The activity was conducted under the guidance of class teachers, with students making rakhis using the three colours featured on the Indian national flag. The materials required for preparing the rakhis were brought by the students themselves.
The initiative combined a creative classroom activity with lessons on the significance of the national flag. Teachers explained the characteristics and symbolism associated with its three colours and their place in the Tricolour.
Students were informed that saffron represents the country's strength, courage and sacrifice. White represents purity, peace and truth, while green signifies the fertility and prosperity of the land.
Teachers also explained the Ashoka Chakra depicted on the national flag. The Chakra is dark blue in colour and has 24 spokes, with its symbolism explained to students as representing movement and dynamism.
The programme also included information about the history of the national flag, giving students context about the significance of the colours and symbols incorporated into it.
The raki-making activity was designed to provide a school-level platform for students to express their sense of national pride while learning about the Tricolour. Students, including both boys and girls, participated in the activity in large numbers across the NMMC's primary and secondary schools.
The civic body's initiative was conducted as part of the ‘Gharoghari Tiranga’ or ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, which seeks to maintain awareness and respect for the national flag among citizens. The school activity extended the campaign to students through an educational and participatory programme centred on the national flag.
Through the activity, NMMC schools sought to combine awareness of the national flag with student participation, while teachers used the exercise to explain the meaning of its colours, the Ashoka Chakra and aspects of the flag's history.
