The Telangana High Court has allowed authorities to resume land acquisition proceedings for a section of Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase-II after vacating an interim stay imposed earlier in the case. The dispute concerns properties required for the MGBS-Chandrayangutta corridor, where landowners had challenged the acquisition process and alignment. The court said decisions on Metro alignment and land requirements involve technical assessments that fall primarily within the domain of expert authorities. Land pooling for Amaravati has reached 70.66% in Pedamaddur under the second phase of the Land Pooling Scheme (LPS 2.0). Of the 1,018 acres targeted in the village, Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) officials have so far collected 719.35 acres from farmers. The process is progressing with farmers voluntarily coming forward to provide their land for the development of the capital. Several farmers recently submitted their land-related documents to APCRDA officials, further advancing the consolidation process in the village.Read more

The Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) has allotted 113 returnable plots to 42 farmers from five Amaravati villages through an e-lottery. The allotment covers farmers who recently contributed land for the development of Amaravati as well as eligible beneficiaries seeking alternative plots due to road alignment, court cases or land acquisition affecting their earlier allotments. The lottery was conducted using an online randomisation system in the presence of the beneficiaries. APCRDA officials also issued provisional allotment certificates and said GIS personnel and village surveyors would help farmers identify their allotted plots.Read more

The Maharashtra Cabinet has approved changes to the interest payable on delayed land acquisition compensation and concessions on land-related charges for renewable energy projects. The decisions include amendments to Section 72 of the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013, to revise the applicable interest rate when compensation payments are delayed. For renewable energy projects, the Cabinet approved exemption from stamp duty on internal land transfers between companies within a group or special purpose vehicles and a 25% concession on land transfer fees for purchased land. The Cabinet also cleared proposals covering state agriculture posts, financing for a cooperative sugar factory, private skill universities, social work education and judicial infrastructure in Nanded district.Read more

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will place a proposal before its Improvements Committee on August 12 for leasing the 23,822 sq m Century Mills plot in Lower Parel to Peddar Realty Ltd for redevelopment. Peddar Realty emerged as the highest bidder with an offer of INR 1,351 crore, marginally above the civic body’s INR 1,348 crore reserve price. The 30-year lease covers a site with existing mill-worker tenements and shops. The redevelopment is expected to provide rehabilitation housing to eligible former mill workers’ families, while the remaining development is intended to generate revenue for the civic body.Read more

The Maharashtra government has approved forest-land diversion linked to two Adani Group projects in the state, covering separate developments in Raigad and Nagpur. One approval concerns 0.6497 hectare of forest land required for infrastructure associated with Adani Cementation’s Raigad Cement Bulk Terminal in Alibag taluka, while another state government order records the diversion of 87.351 hectares for Adani Power Maharashtra’s Gondkhairi Underground Coal Mine in Nagpur. Goa’s Town and Country Planning Department has notified around 9.73 lakh sq metres of land in parts of Mormugao and Salcete as non-developable areas under Section 39A of the Goa Town and Country Planning Act. The notification covers multiple land parcels identified for protection from development, including areas in Sao-Jorge Island in Mormugao. The move is part of the state’s efforts to restrict development in environmentally sensitive and ecologically important areas. The West Bengal government is examining land pooling, industrial parks and changes to land laws to make larger parcels available for industrial development without relying on direct land acquisition. Subrata Gupta, adviser to Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, said the state was evaluating land pooling to address fragmented land holdings while reducing direct government involvement in transactions with individual landowners. The approach is politically sensitive in West Bengal, where the Singur and Nandigram land agitations have had significant political consequences. The government is also considering closed industrial sites as an alternative source of land and reviewing rules governing land holding and utilisation. Gupta said repealing the Urban Land (Ceiling and Regulation) Act would not by itself resolve the issue because industrial units generally fall outside its scope. The state is also examining legal issues concerning bargadars, or sharecroppers, who retain land rights despite no longer farming.Read more

The Comptroller and Auditor General has flagged the prolonged underutilisation of 81.42 acres of land in Baprola, southwest Delhi, by the Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation. The land was acquired in 2006 for developing a Gems and Jewellery Park and a Fashion Design Hub, but repeated changes in the proposed use left nearly 59 per cent of the allotted area unused for more than 17 years. The audit also highlighted unfruitful expenditure of INR 29.45 crore and an outstanding ground rent liability of INR 15.79 crore.Read more

The Appellate Tribunal under SAFEMA has disposed of appeals filed by actor K. Ramcharan Tej and former cricketer V. Chamundeshwarnath, along with two other purchasers, over villa plots in Hyderabad’s Boulder Hills that were attached in a money-laundering investigation. The tribunal found that the purchasers had paid substantial portions of the agreed consideration, but no sale deeds had been executed.
