The Ladakh administration has approved an interim land-use regulatory framework permitting residential, commercial, industrial and mixed-use development on plots of up to two kanals within Municipal Committee limits without prior approval. Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena approved the framework in the past week to address regulatory uncertainty arising from the absence of notified Master Plans and Zonal Development Plans in the Union Territory. While easing building permissions for permissible activities, the framework continues to prohibit specified Red and Orange category industries, slaughterhouses, commercial animal rearing, stone quarries, storage of inflammable materials and burial grounds or crematoria in designated areas without prior approval. Karnataka Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Shri Eshwar Khandre has dismissed allegations by Union Minister Shri H D Kumaraswamy that the state Forest Department encroached on HMT land in Bengaluru to facilitate real estate development. The Goa government has notified 1.03 crore sq m of ecologically sensitive land across seven villages in South Goa's Salcete taluka as a No Development Zone (NDZ) under the Regional Plan.
