The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has launched a special property tax recovery drive targeting around INR 2,400 crore in accumulated arrears, with a recovery goal of at least INR 1,000 crore between August 20 and September 30. The campaign will initially focus on commercial, mixed-use and other non-residential properties as well as vacant plots, with particular attention to 703 properties owing more than INR 5 lakh and 3,924 properties with dues between INR 1 lakh and INR 5 lakh. More than 400 personnel from the NMC’s tax and other departments have been deployed across the city’s 10 zones. Enforcement measures include property attachment, seizure of movable assets, disconnection of water and sewer connections and legal proceedings to freeze bank accounts of defaulting commercial establishments.Read more

Nagpur Metro Phase II has entered the track-laying stage, with MahaMetro completing around 2 kilometres of track on the Kamptee stretch of Reach-2. The development marks the transition of completed viaduct sections from civil construction to railway systems work. MahaMetro has introduced a redesigned track fastening system that has received approval from the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO). The system uses a smaller base plate, a two-hole fastening arrangement and double rubber pads aimed at reducing construction costs and vibrations. Track laying on other reaches will follow as more viaduct sections become ready.Read more

MahaMetro has resurfaced Nagpur’s Wardha Road double-decker flyover after potholes and rough patches affected the ride quality for commuters. The repair followed reports highlighting the deteriorating condition of the city’s double-decker flyovers, particularly around the Ajni and Airport Square approaches and exits. The Wardha Road structure, which combines a road flyover and Metro viaduct, was opened in 2020 and continues to be maintained by MahaMetro. The repair also comes as both the Wardha Road and Kamptee Road structures are expected to eventually be handed over to the Nagpur Municipal Corporation.Read more

Nearly 88% of buildings constructed in Nagpur city do not have mandatory Occupancy Certificates (OCs), prompting Union Minister Nitin Gadkari to set a four-month deadline for authorities to address the long-standing issue. Of 3,669 buildings identified, only 426 have obtained OCs, leaving 3,243 without the required certification. The absence of OCs has raised concerns over regulatory compliance and building safety. The Maharashtra government has approved forest-land diversion linked to two Adani Group projects in the state, covering separate developments in Raigad and Nagpur. One approval concerns 0.6497 hectare of forest land required for infrastructure associated with Adani Cementation’s Raigad Cement Bulk Terminal in Alibag taluka, while another state government order records the diversion of 87.351 hectares for Adani Power Maharashtra’s Gondkhairi Underground Coal Mine in Nagpur. The House of Abhinandan Lodha (HoABL) has announced that its 78-acre Nagpur Marina development in South Nagpur has become the first and only project in Central India to qualify as an Alpha Grade Luxury Asset under the assessment framework developed by independent real estate research firm Liases Foras. The National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) has dismissed two appeals filed by Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC), clearing the way for the sale of the assets of Abhijeet MADC Nagpur Energy Pvt Ltd (AMNEPL), a power project developed to supply electricity to Nagpur's MIHAN Special Economic Zone. The tribunal upheld an earlier NCLT order validating the sale to Rankini Power Generation and ruled that the liquidator had the authority to transfer the company's leasehold assets under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code. State-owned Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (Powergrid) has secured a green loan of JPY 80 billion from the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) to finance the Khavda–Nagpur High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) transmission project. The loan agreement was signed in the past month and forms part of the financing for transmission infrastructure required to integrate renewable energy into India's power grid. According to the company, the funding reflects continued collaboration between Powergrid and JBIC in developing critical electricity transmission assets. The Maharashtra cabinet's infrastructure sub-committee has approved the extension of the Phase II North Corridor of the Nagpur Metro from the Kanhan River to Kanhan town at an estimated cost of INR 310.35 crore.
