Taiwan-based electronics manufacturer Foxconn is scouting for more than 200 acres of land in India to establish a technology park and high-end electronics manufacturing facility. The company has reportedly surveyed a potential site near Sanand in Ahmedabad district, Gujarat, while evaluating locations in other states as well. The proposed facility could manufacture mobile phones and other high-end electronics. Gujarat has offered customised incentives and assistance to attract the investment. Foxconn is expected to decide on the project’s location in the coming weeks.
Taiwan-based Hon Hai Technology Group, better known as Foxconn, is scouting for a land parcel of more than 200 acres in India to establish a technology park and high-end electronics manufacturing facility. Among the locations being evaluated, the company has shown interest in a site near Sanand in Ahmedabad district, Gujarat, according to government sources.
Foxconn executives have reportedly surveyed the potential land parcel near Sanand as part of the company’s site-selection process. However, Gujarat is not the only location under consideration, with the electronics manufacturer also examining potential sites in other states before taking a final investment decision. The company is expected to decide on the location in the coming weeks.
The proposed project is expected to include a mobile phone manufacturing plant along with facilities for other high-end electronics. The scale of the land requirement indicates the possibility of a large manufacturing and technology campus, although details such as the proposed investment, production capacity and employment generation have not yet been disclosed.
Gujarat is seeking to position itself as a major destination for semiconductor and electronics manufacturing, with Sanand emerging as an important industrial location for the sector. The state government has reportedly offered customised incentives and assistance to Foxconn to facilitate the proposed project. Additional incentives could also be considered under the state's recently announced industrial policy.
The potential Foxconn project would add to the electronics manufacturing ecosystem developing around Sanand. The area is already attracting semiconductor and electronics investments, including Micron’s semiconductor assembly, testing, marking and packaging facility. The central government has said Micron’s Sanand project involves an estimated investment of INR 13,000 crore and is expected to generate more than 20,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities.
Foxconn already has a growing manufacturing footprint in India. The company has electronics manufacturing operations in Tamil Nadu and is pursuing technology and semiconductor-related projects in other parts of the country. It is also working with the HCL Group on a technology and semiconductor park in Uttar Pradesh. A potential Gujarat facility would further expand its presence in India’s electronics manufacturing landscape.
For Gujarat, securing the project could strengthen the state’s efforts to build an integrated electronics and semiconductor ecosystem. A large technology park could create additional demand for industrial land, logistics, warehousing, utilities and supporting manufacturing infrastructure around Sanand. It could also attract component suppliers and ancillary businesses seeking proximity to major electronics manufacturers.
However, the proposed Gujarat project remains at the site-evaluation stage, and no final location or investment commitment has been announced. Foxconn is continuing to compare potential sites across states, with factors such as land availability, infrastructure, logistics and government support likely to influence the final decision. If Sanand is selected, the project would add another major electronics manufacturing development to Gujarat’s industrial pipeline.
