The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has completed a key construction milestone on the 13.9-km Elevated Eastern Freeway Extension (EFE) by successfully installing two 59-metre-long main trusses of a segment launcher over the Eastern Express Highway. The operation, completed within a four-hour traffic block, marks the beginning of the superstructure construction phase. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has constituted an expert committee to review the planning, design and execution of major flyover and bridge projects following concerns raised over the recently opened extension of the Mrinaltai Gore Flyover in Goregaon. The Maharashtra government has approved INR 45 crore for an eco-tourism and bird park project at Bhandup, to be developed along the Thane Creek shoreline within the Ramsar-designated Thane Creek Flamingo Sanctuary. Mumbai Suburban Guardian Minister Ashish Shelar inspected the proposed site and said the project will feature India's first AI-powered bird detection and monitoring system at an eco-tourism destination, alongside a mangrove nature trail, observation towers and a nature interpretation centre. The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has deployed a special sanitation team to Pandharpur as part of the Maharashtra government's Safai Apnao, Bimari Bhagao campaign during the Ashadhi Wari pilgrimage. With lakhs of devotees expected to visit the temple town, the civic body will undertake a two-day cleanliness drive focused on maintaining hygiene across key public areas. The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has clarified that the online recruitment examinations under its Direct Recruitment 2025–26 drive will be conducted as scheduled on July 21 and 22 despite an earlier resolution passed by the General Body seeking a temporary suspension of the recruitment process. The civic body received 19,220 applications for 132 vacancies across Group A, Group B and Group C cadres. The examinations will be conducted by TCS iON across 13 centres in six districts. NMMC has put in place extensive administrative and security measures, including the appointment of coordination officers and observers, police deployment and mobile jammers, while urging candidates to rely only on official sources for recruitment-related information.Read more

The directors of Mumbai-based luxury developer Notandas Realty, Mahesh Jagwani and Harsh Jagwani, have acquired the heritage Villa Wilson bungalow in Juhu for INR 135 crore, marking the company's second high-profile bungalow purchase in the suburb this year. Spread across a plot of about 1,038.5 square metres with a future developable area of roughly 11,836.94 square metres, the property was previously owned by the Wilson family for more than five decades. Aurum PropTech Ltd reported a consolidated net profit of INR 45.18 crore for the first quarter of FY2026–27, reversing a loss recorded a year earlier, primarily due to gains from the sale of two commercial buildings in Navi Mumbai. The Mumbai-based PropTech company also reported a rise in total income to INR 119.01 crore during the April–June quarter. The asset sale, valued at INR 112 crore, was completed during the quarter, with the balance gain recognised as other income from discontinued operations. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has recorded 23% physical progress on the Kasheli Metro Depot, the operations and maintenance hub for Metro Line 5 connecting Thane, Bhiwandi, Kalyan and Ulhasnagar. Spread across nearly 27 hectares, the depot is being developed in phases to support early testing and commissioning of the metro corridor. The project will house train stabling, inspection, maintenance and administrative facilities, while advanced ground improvement techniques are being used to address challenging soil conditions and ensure long-term structural stability. A Mumbai sessions court has granted anticipatory bail to businessman Lokesh Jain, a partner at M/s Bhumika Transport, in connection with the alleged INR 65 crore Mithi river desilting scam. The court observed that police had not arrested Jain despite the case being registered in May 2025, and noted that the documents in question had already been seized from officials of the BMC's Storm Water Drains department. The prosecution had alleged that Jain, along with co-accused, conspired to cause wrongful loss to the civic body through forged log sheets and inflated machine hire arrangements during desilting work carried out between 2023 and 2025.Read more

MMRDA has approved direct Foot Over Bridge (FOB) connectivity between a Metro Line 4 station and the Godrej commercial campus in Vikhroli as part of its initiative to strengthen last-mile connectivity across Mumbai's Metro network. The project is expected to improve commuter convenience, enhance pedestrian safety and encourage higher Metro ridership. Under MMRDA's policy, private developers bear the construction cost and pay a one-time development fee along with supervision charges. • Western Railway (WR) has approached the Ministry of Defence seeking around 48 hectares of defence land in Kandivali to develop a new mega railway terminus aimed at easing congestion at Mumbai Central, Bandra Terminus and other existing stations.
• The proposed terminus is planned to handle long-distance trains originating from and terminating in Mumbai, while improving passenger distribution across the suburban rail network.
• Railway officials have proposed a land exchange, offering an equivalent parcel of railway land to the defence authorities, and discussions between the two sides are currently underway.
• If approved, the project is expected to strengthen Mumbai's railway infrastructure, support future passenger growth and improve connectivity in the city's northern suburbs.Read more

A portion of the third-floor slab in a residential building at Koparkhairane, Navi Mumbai, collapsed during the past week, prompting the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) to evacuate the building as a precautionary measure. The incident occurred at Arthav Society in Sector 18, where the slab of Flat No. 302 gave way and fell into the flat directly below. No casualties or injuries were reported. As part of emergency safety measures, civic authorities arranged temporary accommodation for affected residents at Annasaheb Patil Hall in Sector 5, disconnected electricity and water supply to the building, and sealed the premises.
