A slab collapse at a residential building in Koparkhairane, Navi Mumbai, led to the evacuation of occupants during the past week after a portion of the third-floor structure gave way and fell into the flat below. The incident occurred at Arthav Society, located on Plot No. 14 in Sector 18, at around 5 pm. According to the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC), no casualties or injuries were reported.
The civic body stated that the slab of Flat No. 302 on the third floor collapsed and fell into Flat No. 202 on the floor below. Although the incident caused structural damage within the affected flats, all residents were reported to be safe, and no one sustained injuries.
Following the incident, the Koparkhairane Ward Office initiated precautionary measures to safeguard residents. The NMMC arranged temporary accommodation for the evacuated occupants at Annasaheb Patil Hall in Sector 5, Koparkhairane, ensuring immediate shelter for families displaced by the structural failure.
As part of the emergency response, municipal authorities disconnected the building's electricity and water supply to eliminate potential safety hazards during the inspection and assessment process. Officials also evacuated all occupants from the building before sealing the premises to prevent further access until its structural stability can be evaluated.
The municipal corporation further stated that police personnel have been deployed at the site to maintain security and restrict entry into the building while the necessary safety inspections and subsequent action are undertaken.
The incident highlights the importance of immediate precautionary measures following structural failures in residential buildings. The civic administration has prioritised resident safety by arranging temporary rehabilitation, restricting access to the affected property and securing the site pending further technical assessment of the building's condition.
