City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) has achieved its first-ever tunnel breakthrough in the Hetawane Water Supply Scheme at Shaft 4 in Wahal village, Navi Mumbai. Executed by Afcons Infrastructure Ltd, 5.52 km of the 8.7 km treated water tunnel under Package 1 is completed, overcoming geological and operational challenges. The scheme, including 13.25 km of raw water and 15.4 km of treated water tunnels, aims to raise the city's water capacity from 150 million litres per day (MLD) to 270 MLD. The Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail project marked a major construction milestone with the completion of Mountain Tunnel 5 (MT 5) in Palghar district, Maharashtra. The Ministry of Railways has approved the addition of third and fourth lines on the Badlapur Karjat suburban section under the Mumbai Urban Transport Project 3B (MUTP 3B), following clearance from the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs and agreement from the Maharashtra government. Two IndiGo flights operating from Delhi and Mumbai to Hyderabad were diverted to Vijayawada after dense fog reduced visibility at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport. The National Highways Authority of India has decided to remove the mandatory Know Your Vehicle verification for new FASTag issuances in the passenger vehicle category from February 2026. The move follows repeated complaints from vehicle owners about delays and disruptions caused by post-activation KYV checks. Under the revised process, KYV will no longer be carried out as a routine step and will be applied only in specific cases such as misuse or incorrect tagging.
