The proposed Kota-Bundi greenfield airport in Rajasthan is progressing toward becoming operational by 2027, according to updates shared by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. Government departments involved in the project have indicated that aviation services are expected to begin by then, with encouraging responses received from airline operators. Construction activity has moved ahead with one major work order already issued under the approved tender packages. The airport is part of a broader infrastructure push aimed at improving regional connectivity and supporting economic and educational activity in the Hadoti region.
Work on the Kota-Bundi greenfield airport is moving forward, with authorities projecting that the facility will start flight operations by 2027. Updates on the project indicate that relevant departments are aligned toward meeting this timeline, and discussions held with airline operators have received a positive response regarding future services from the airport.
The project has already crossed key administrative milestones. Tender processes for construction have progressed, and one of the two major work orders has been issued. The airport project has been sanctioned at a total cost of INR 10,507 crore, reflecting its scale and importance for the region's long-term infrastructure development.
In parallel, a proposal is under consideration to establish a pilot training institute at the existing Kota airport. This initiative is expected to support aviation skill development while complementing the new greenfield airport once operations begin.
The Kota-Bundi airport project had earlier received Union Cabinet approval, with the Airports Authority of India entrusted with its development. The Rajasthan government has allocated over 440 hectares of land for the airport, addressing capacity limitations faced by the existing Kota airport, which is constrained by its location and land availability.
Once operational, the new airport is expected to improve air connectivity for Kota and nearby districts, which are known for their educational institutions, industrial activity, and growing population. The facility is designed to handle larger aircraft and higher passenger volumes, positioning it as a key transport asset for the Hadoti region.
