State-owned Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (Powergrid) has secured a green loan of JPY 80 billion from the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) to finance the Khavda–Nagpur High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) transmission project. The loan agreement was signed in the past month and forms part of the financing for transmission infrastructure required to integrate renewable energy into India's power grid. According to the company, the funding reflects continued collaboration between Powergrid and JBIC in developing critical electricity transmission assets. The Maharashtra cabinet's infrastructure sub-committee has approved the extension of the Phase II North Corridor of the Nagpur Metro from the Kanhan River to Kanhan town at an estimated cost of INR 310.35 crore. The 1.4-km elevated stretch, proposed by Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (Maha-Metro), will include a new elevated station at Kanhan town and is expected to improve connectivity for around 20,000 additional daily passengers. The disputed land had originally been leased to Abhyankar Smarak Trust in 1937 for charitable purposes, but the lease expired in 1967 and was not renewed thereafter.
