NHAI outlines asset monetisation strategy to recycle highway capital and accelerate infrastructure investment

12 Jun 2026

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has detailed its asset monetisation strategy aimed at unlocking value from operational highway assets to finance new infrastructure development across the country. The framework relies on instruments such as Toll-Operate-Transfer (TOT), Infrastructure Investment Trusts (InvITs) and securitisation to attract long-term domestic and global investors. By recycling capital generated from mature assets, the authority seeks to reduce dependence on budgetary support while sustaining the pace of national highway expansion and improving overall asset management.Read more

Zojila Tunnel Breakthrough Marks Major Milestone in India's Himalayan Infrastructure Push

12 Jun 2026

The breakthrough of the main tunnel at the eastern portal of the Zojila Tunnel project marks a significant milestone in India's efforts to establish year-round connectivity between Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. Witnessed by Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, the achievement brings the nearly 14-km-long tunnel closer to completion. Once operational, the INR 6,800-crore project is expected to dramatically reduce travel time, improve road safety, boost tourism and trade, and strengthen strategic connectivity in the Himalayan region. The milestone also comes amid the government's broader push to develop highway and tunnel infrastructure worth over INR 1.35 lakh crore across Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.Read more

Mangaluru IT park tender extended after failing to attract bidders

12 Jun 2026

The Karnataka government has extended the bidding deadline for the proposed INR 135 crore IT Park in Mangaluru after the project failed to receive any bids in its initial tender round. The development, planned on a 3.2-acre site at Derebail under the state's ‘Beyond Bengaluru’ initiative, is being implemented by the Karnataka State Electronics Development Corporation (KEONICS) through a public-private partnership model. Industry stakeholders have attributed the weak response to inadequate road connectivity, site-readiness concerns, stringent tender conditions and commercial terms that do not align with Mangaluru's market dynamics. The project is expected to create around 11,000 jobs and provide more than 3.5 lakh sq ft of Grade A office space, but concerns over infrastructure continue to affect investor interest.Read more

Nagpur enters monsoon with 278 unsafe buildings still standing

12 Jun 2026

Nagpur is entering the monsoon season with 278 buildings classified as dangerous by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) still standing across the city, raising concerns over public safety amid forecasts of heavy rainfall. Civic authorities have issued notices to property owners and occupants, urging immediate evacuation and structural action. Despite annual inspections and enforcement measures, many unsafe structures remain occupied or have not been demolished due to ownership disputes, legal hurdles and delays in compliance. The issue has drawn attention to the challenges of managing ageing building stock in rapidly urbanising cities, particularly as intense rainfall events increase the risk of structural failures. Authorities have warned residents against occupying identified buildings during the monsoon period.Read more

Delhi data centre fire disrupts Google Cloud services across major Indian cities

11 Jun 2026

Google Cloud has reported network disruptions and elevated latency affecting users in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and surrounding regions following a fire at a third-party data centre facility in New Delhi. The incident prompted an emergency shutdown of networking equipment, isolating a local Point of Presence (POP) and reducing network capacity in the National Capital Region. To maintain service continuity, Google rerouted significant volumes of traffic away from the affected facility. However, the shift has resulted in intermittent latency spikes and possible packet loss as demand has exceeded available capacity across several Indian metropolitan areas and regional internet service providers. The company is implementing additional mitigation measures while restoration work continues at the impacted facility.Read more

The panel's findings have intensified scrutiny of unauthorised construction in flood-prone zones across the Pune metropolitan region. The proposed action follows a series of enforcement measures undertaken in recent months against similar developments along the river corridor.
