The third BRICS Transport Ministers' Meeting concluded in Nagpur under India's BRICS Chairship 2026 with the adoption of a ministerial declaration aimed at strengthening cooperation on transport infrastructure and sustainable mobility. The declaration establishes a collaborative framework covering infrastructure circularity, Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), transport decarbonisation, urban mobility hubs, logistics supply chains and railway research. The meeting followed a two-day gathering of senior officials and brought together transport ministers, policymakers and technical experts from BRICS member countries to advance cooperation on transport planning, connectivity and infrastructure development.
The third BRICS Transport Ministers' Meeting concluded in Nagpur during the past week under India's BRICS Chairship 2026, with member nations unanimously adopting a ministerial declaration to strengthen cooperation across transport infrastructure, logistics and sustainable mobility.
The meeting brought together transport ministers, senior government officials and technical experts from BRICS member countries to discuss common priorities and establish a framework for future collaboration across key transport sectors. The ministerial session followed the third BRICS Transport Working Group (TWG) Senior Officials' Meeting, held over two days, during which participating countries finalised the agenda and negotiated the outcomes incorporated into the declaration.
According to an official statement, the ministerial declaration sets out a shared roadmap for cooperation across several strategic areas. These include infrastructure circularity, Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), transport decarbonisation, urban mobility hubs, logistics and supply chain cooperation, and the establishment of a BRICS Railway Research Network.
The declaration reflects the collective commitment of member countries to enhance cooperation on transport systems while encouraging knowledge sharing, research and policy coordination in support of more sustainable and resilient infrastructure development.
The government said the declaration was adopted through consensus following discussions among transport ministers and heads of delegation representing the BRICS member nations. It added that the deliberations were conducted in line with the grouping's principles of mutual respect, equality and consensus-based decision-making.
Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari thanked the participating delegations for their cooperation in achieving consensus on the declaration. According to the official statement, India expressed its appreciation for the constructive engagement and contributions made by all member countries throughout the discussions.
The government also reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a smooth transition of the agreed initiatives to the next BRICS Chairship so that work on the identified priority areas can continue without interruption.
The four-day programme included the Senior Officials' Meeting, the Transport Ministers' Meeting and a series of bilateral engagements between participating delegations. Alongside the formal discussions, cultural presentations highlighting the diversity of BRICS member countries were organised as part of the event.
According to the government, the programme provided an opportunity to strengthen institutional cooperation while encouraging greater people-to-people engagement among participating countries. It added that the meetings helped reinforce partnerships between member nations through continued dialogue on transport policy, infrastructure planning, sustainable mobility and logistics connectivity, laying the groundwork for future collaboration under the BRICS framework.
