Infrastructure projects valued at INR 150 crore and above have recorded a cumulative cost overrun of INR 5.65 lakh crore, according to the latest monthly report for April from the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation. The report tracks 1,981 ongoing projects across 17 central ministries with a revised cost of INR 42.78 lakh crore against an original estimate of INR 37.12 lakh crore. Total expenditure stands at INR 20.36 lakh crore, about 47.59% of revised cost. Around 40% projects have over 80% physical progress, while 14% show over 80% financial completion, with transport and logistics dominating.Read more

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is planning to widen the Lucknow-Sitapur section of NH-30 from four lanes to six lanes to accommodate rising traffic volumes and improve regional connectivity in Uttar Pradesh. The tendering process for the project is expected to begin by December 2026 after completion of surveys and project planning activities. Officials stated that the highway currently handles more than 40,000 vehicles daily, resulting in traffic congestion and slower movement during peak hours. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has begun landscaping and plantation work along the Mumbai Coastal Road project, with plans to plant nearly 60,000 trees across reclaimed open spaces over the next two years. Around 15,000 trees are targeted before the monsoon season, with work underway in Worli and Breach Candy. Delhi’s Public Works Department (PWD) is set to introduce a QR code-based road grievance management system under its ‘Know Your Road’ initiative to improve transparency and public access to road maintenance information. The project will cover nearly 1,400 km of PWD-managed roads across the capital. Citizens will be able to scan QR codes installed on road signboards to check contractor details, maintenance history and complaint status, while also registering complaints directly without downloading an app. The department has approved a tender for the project and plans to begin with a pilot at 100 locations before expanding it across Delhi.Read more
