Synopsis

• The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has begun preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for a proposed Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor linking Ghaziabad with Noida International Airport at Jewar.
• The proposed high-speed transit corridor aims to significantly reduce travel time between Ghaziabad, Noida, Greater Noida and the upcoming airport, while strengthening regional connectivity across the National Capital Region.
• The DPR will assess the project's alignment, station locations, technical feasibility, passenger demand, costs and implementation strategy before it is taken up for approvals.
• The proposed corridor forms part of broader efforts to expand the NCR's rapid transit network and improve multimodal connectivity to the greenfield airport ahead of its phased operational rollout.

The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has initiated the preparation of a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for a proposed Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor connecting Ghaziabad with the upcoming Noida International Airport at Jewar. The project is aimed at providing faster and more efficient regional connectivity while improving access to one of India's largest greenfield airports.
The proposed RRTS corridor is expected to substantially reduce travel time for commuters travelling between Ghaziabad, Noida, Greater Noida and Jewar. By integrating key urban centres with the airport through a high-speed rail network, the project seeks to offer a reliable alternative to road transport and support growing passenger movement across the National Capital Region (NCR).
As part of the DPR, NCRTC will examine various aspects of the proposed corridor, including its alignment, station locations, engineering requirements, estimated project cost, ridership potential and financial viability. The study will also evaluate multimodal integration with existing and planned transport infrastructure to ensure seamless connectivity for passengers.
The proposed link is expected to complement the expanding RRTS network being developed across the NCR and strengthen connectivity to the Noida International Airport, which is envisioned as a major aviation hub for northern India. Improved regional transport access is also expected to support economic activity, commercial development and urban growth along the corridor.
Officials said the preparation of the DPR marks an important step towards evaluating the feasibility of the project before it is placed before the concerned authorities for approval. Once implemented, the corridor is expected to enhance mobility across western Uttar Pradesh, ease dependence on road travel and provide quicker access to the airport for residents and businesses in Ghaziabad and neighbouring regions.
The proposed RRTS connection reflects the government's broader strategy of integrating high-speed regional transit with key infrastructure projects, creating a more efficient and sustainable transportation network across the NCR.
