The Centre has cleared an INR 1,880.11 crore project to widen the Cuncolim-Bendordem stretch of NH-66 in South Goa, strengthening a key highway corridor connecting Goa with Karnataka and Maharashtra. The project includes four-laning works, a 5.78-km elevated corridor, bypasses at Cuncolim and Balli, a six-lane railway overbridge, upgraded junctions and pedestrian infrastructure. The development is aimed at reducing congestion, improving travel time and supporting rising traffic movement across South Goa. The approval also adds to ongoing highway expansion works being undertaken on different sections of NH-66 along India’s western coastal corridor.Read more

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has approved a 4-lane Thiruvarur bypass project in Tamil Nadu with an estimated cost of INR 1,427.61 crore. The 14.9 km stretch on NH-83 will also include two Road Over Bridges on NH-129A and NH-134A. The project is expected to improve connectivity between Tiruchirappalli, Coimbatore, Karaikal, and Nagapattinam, while easing traffic congestion in Thiruvarur town. It is also likely to reduce travel time and improve safety by diverting heavy traffic away from populated and commercial zones in the region.Read more

• The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has submitted six final proposals involving cutting and transplantation of over 2,200 trees for the Versova–Dahisar Coastal Road project in Mumbai’s western suburbs.
• According to civic documents and multiple media reports, nearly 1,000 trees are proposed to be cut while around 1,288 trees are planned for transplantation across stretches between Goregaon, Malad and Dahisar.
• The civic body stated that compensatory plantation of more than 19,500 trees will be undertaken in Panvel due to limited plantation space available within Mumbai.
• The proposals have been placed before BMC’s Tree Authority amid opposition from residents and environmental groups over potential green cover loss and mangrove impact linked to the coastal road project.Read more

The Maharashtra cabinet has approved a waiver of nearly INR 637 crore in stamp duty and registration charges for land transactions linked to the New Nagpur Business District and New Outer Ring Road projects. The move is aimed at speeding up land acquisition through direct purchases and negotiated settlements with landowners. The INR 332 crore Ajni cable-stayed bridge project in Nagpur is set to miss its pre-monsoon completion target, with major structural work still pending. The project, being developed by Maharashtra Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation (MRIDC), is aimed at replacing the 125-year-old Ajni railway overbridge and easing traffic congestion between South and Central Nagpur.
