The Andhra Pradesh government has notified the Common Zoning Regulations, 2026, introducing a uniform land-use framework to simplify urban planning and accelerate development approvals across the state. The regulations replace multiple legacy zoning systems with nine standard land-use categories and adopt a zone-wise negative-list approach, under which activities are permitted unless specifically prohibited. The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has revised bus fares across its network after receiving approval from the State Transport Authority. The increase has been attributed to higher diesel prices, rising employee-related expenses and increased maintenance costs. The revised fares came into effect from midnight earlier this week and apply across different categories of buses, with ordinary services witnessing a 13.56 per cent hike. Residents of Balkum, Kolshet and Dhokali in Thane staged a protest against Amazon's proposed 53-acre data centre, citing concerns over water consumption, electricity demand, noise pollution and environmental impact. The demonstrators alleged that the facility could affect nearby residential neighbourhoods, schools and hospitals and claimed discussions with civic authorities and Amazon had not resolved their concerns.
