Infrastructure projects costing more than INR 150 crore each have recorded a cumulative cost overrun of around INR 5.4 lakh crore, according to the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation's (MoSPI) monthly report for May 2026. The report monitored 1,987 ongoing projects across 17 Central ministries and departments, with the combined revised project cost rising to INR 42.50 lakh crore from the original estimate of INR 37.09 lakh crore. Transport and logistics continue to account for the largest share of projects, while road transport, railways and coal remain the leading implementing ministries. The report also indicates that more than 40% of projects have achieved over 80% physical progress, reflecting significant advancement across the national infrastructure pipeline.Read more

The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has restored road connectivity between Gulabgarh and Machail in Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar district by operationalising a 140-foot triple-double reinforced Bailey bridge at Chishoti, replacing a structure destroyed in a cloudburst last year. Built in just 12 days by the 118 Road Construction Company under Project Sampark, the bridge reconnects the remote Machail region before the annual Machail Mata Yatra begins in July. The project reinstates the only road access to the area, supports local communities, strengthens connectivity along a strategically significant corridor and reflects coordinated efforts between the BRO, the Indian Army and the civil administration.Read more

The Maharashtra cabinet's infrastructure sub-committee has approved a INR 1,722.40 crore road project connecting the Bandra Fort end of the under-construction Versova-Bandra Sea Link (VBSL) with the Savarkar Sea Bridge. To be implemented by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), the 3.55-km link is expected to significantly reduce travel time between south Mumbai and the western suburbs while accommodating around 3,500 passenger cars per hour. The project also includes provisions for rehabilitation of affected hutments, compensation for fishermen and environmental mitigation measures. A new school is set to be developed in Amaravati after the Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) allotted three acres of land at Abbarajupalem to the Amaravati Educational and Cultural Academy (AECA). The institution, which will be managed by DAV Chennai, aims to provide quality education to children in the Amaravati Capital Region. Built at an estimated cost of INR 25 crore with support from Amaravati farmers, the project is expected to create over 250 direct and indirect jobs.
