Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy Ltd (SWREL) has secured an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract valued at approximately USD 560 million for the West Minya Solar Power Project in Egypt. The project has been awarded to a 50:50 joint venture between SWREL and Hassan Allam Construction. Located in Egypt's Minya Governorate, the development will comprise a 1,000 MW utility-scale solar power plant integrated with a 600 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). Upon completion, it is expected to become one of the country's largest renewable energy projects, with the joint venture responsible for delivering the complete EPC scope, including grid connectivity and associated infrastructure.Read more

India's first eight-lane highway tunnel constructed beneath a tiger reserve is expected to become fully operational in August after ongoing safety trials and technical evaluations are completed. Located beneath the Mukundra Hills Tiger Reserve in Rajasthan's Kota district on the Delhi-Vadodara section of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, the 4.9-km twin-tube tunnel has initially been opened for cars and emergency vehicles. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) said the tunnel has been designed to preserve wildlife movement by routing traffic underground while reducing travel distance and improving connectivity. Nearly 45% of homes in India require electrical upgrades to safely support electric vehicle (EV) charging, according to a joint report by Kazam and the Alliance for an Energy Efficient Economy (AEEE). Based on data from more than 80,000 residential EV charger installations across tier-I, tier-II and tier-III cities, the study highlights significant gaps in residential charging infrastructure despite the country's accelerating electric mobility transition. The report estimates that EV-related electricity demand will rise from 0.2% of national consumption in 2024 to around 6% by 2035. It recommends upgrading residential electrical infrastructure, including dedicated charging circuits, compliant wiring, earthing and fire safety measures, to facilitate safe and reliable home charging.Read more

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) plans to empanel Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and other leading technical institutions to independently verify the hydraulic studies and structural designs of major bridges across national highway projects. The initiative is intended to strengthen quality assurance by subjecting bridge designs, which are expected to have a service life of at least 100 years, to rigorous technical scrutiny before construction begins. Around 12 IITs, including IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay, IIT Roorkee and IIT Kharagpur, have expressed interest in collaborating with the authority. NTPC has commissioned the final 41.6 MW phase of its 176 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) project in Ramagundam, Telangana, making the entire project commercially operational. The state-owned power producer declared the latest capacity operational with effect from June 30, following the earlier commissioning of the 100 MW and 34.4 MW phases in May. With the completion of the project, NTPC Group's total installed power generation capacity has increased to 90,899 MW, while its commercial operating capacity has reached 89,819 MW. Adani Green Energy Ltd (AGEL) has become the first renewable energy company in India to surpass 20 GW of operational renewable energy capacity through greenfield development. The milestone, achieved within a decade of commissioning its first renewable energy project in Kamuthi, Tamil Nadu, comes after the company added 5,051 MW during FY26, the highest annual renewable capacity addition by any company outside China. AGEL's operational portfolio now includes solar, wind, hybrid and battery energy storage assets, generating more than 52 billion units of clean electricity annually. Ceigall India has signed a power purchase agreement through its wholly owned subsidiary for a 220 MW solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) project at Morena Solar Park in Madhya Pradesh. The project, valued at around INR 1,700 crore including GST, has been awarded by Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Ltd. It will be developed over 18 months and operated for 25 years at a discovered tariff of INR 2.70 per kWh.
