Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy Ltd (SWREL) has secured an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract valued at approximately USD 560 million for the West Minya Solar Power Project in Egypt. The project has been awarded to a 50:50 joint venture between SWREL and Hassan Allam Construction. Located in Egypt's Minya Governorate, the development will comprise a 1,000 MW utility-scale solar power plant integrated with a 600 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). Upon completion, it is expected to become one of the country's largest renewable energy projects, with the joint venture responsible for delivering the complete EPC scope, including grid connectivity and associated infrastructure.
Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy Ltd (SWREL) has secured an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) order worth approximately USD 560 million for the West Minya Solar Power Project in Egypt. Announced in the past week, the contract has been awarded to a 50:50 joint venture between SWREL and Hassan Allam Construction for the development of one of the country's largest utility-scale renewable energy projects.
The project will be developed in Minya Governorate and will comprise a 1,000 MW solar power plant integrated with a 600 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). According to the company, the combined development is expected to rank among Egypt's largest utility-scale renewable energy installations upon completion.
Under the contract, the joint venture will undertake the complete engineering, procurement and construction scope for the project. This includes the installation of photovoltaic generation facilities, battery energy storage infrastructure, grid interconnection works, transmission facilities and all associated balance-of-plant systems required for project execution.
The scope of work also covers supporting infrastructure necessary for the successful delivery and commissioning of the renewable energy project. The integrated battery energy storage system is expected to enhance the plant's operational flexibility and support the efficient integration of solar power into the electricity grid.
The order further strengthens SWREL's presence in the international renewable energy market, where the company has executed utility-scale solar projects across multiple geographies. The partnership with Hassan Allam Construction combines the expertise of both companies in delivering large-scale energy infrastructure projects in the region.
The West Minya Solar Power Project forms part of Egypt's ongoing efforts to expand renewable energy generation capacity and diversify its power mix through large-scale solar developments supported by energy storage infrastructure.
Once operational, the 1,000 MW solar facility, coupled with the 600 MWh battery energy storage system, is expected to contribute significantly to Egypt's renewable energy capacity while supporting grid stability through integrated storage solutions.
