NTPC has commissioned the final 41.6 MW phase of its 176 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) project in Ramagundam, Telangana, making the entire project commercially operational. The state-owned power producer declared the latest capacity operational with effect from June 30, following the earlier commissioning of the 100 MW and 34.4 MW phases in May. With the completion of the project, NTPC Group's total installed power generation capacity has increased to 90,899 MW, while its commercial operating capacity has reached 89,819 MW. The development further strengthens the company's renewable energy portfolio as it expands clean energy generation across India.
NTPC has declared the full commercial operation of its 176 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) project in Ramagundam, Telangana, following the commissioning of the project's final 41.6 MW capacity earlier this week. The state-owned power utility informed stock exchanges that the latest phase became commercially operational with effect from June 30, completing the entire solar project.
According to the company's regulatory filing, the commissioning of the final 41.6 MW segment marks the completion of the 176 MW Solar PV Project at Ramagundam. The latest addition follows the phased implementation of the project, with the first two sections having already commenced commercial operations during the previous months.
NTPC stated that the first phase, comprising 100 MW, was declared commercially operational on May 2, 2026. This was followed by the commissioning of the second phase, with a capacity of 34.4 MW, on May 29, 2026. The declaration of commercial operation for the remaining 41.6 MW completes the project and enables the entire installed capacity of 176 MW to begin full commercial generation.
The Ramagundam solar project forms part of NTPC's ongoing efforts to expand its renewable energy generation portfolio alongside its conventional power assets. The phased commissioning approach allowed successive portions of the project to begin commercial operations as construction and testing milestones were completed.
With the completion of the Ramagundam project, NTPC Group's total installed power generation capacity has reached 90,899 MW. The company also stated that its commercial operating capacity now stands at 89,819 MW following the latest addition.
The commissioning further strengthens NTPC's renewable energy portfolio as the company continues to increase solar generation capacity across multiple states. The addition of the Ramagundam project contributes to the company's broader strategy of expanding clean energy assets while supporting India's transition towards a more diversified power generation mix.
Commercial operation status signifies that the project has completed the necessary commissioning procedures and is ready to supply electricity under commercial arrangements. With all three phases now operational, the Ramagundam Solar PV Project will contribute its full 176 MW capacity to NTPC's renewable energy generation portfolio.
The latest commissioning reflects the company's continued rollout of utility-scale solar projects and adds to its overall generation capacity, reinforcing NTPC's position as India's largest power producer while expanding the share of renewable energy within its operational asset base.
