Synopsis

Adani Green Energy Ltd (AGEL) has become the first renewable energy company in India to surpass 20 GW of operational renewable energy capacity through greenfield development. The milestone, achieved within a decade of commissioning its first renewable energy project in Kamuthi, Tamil Nadu, comes after the company added 5,051 MW during FY26, the highest annual renewable capacity addition by any company outside China. AGEL's operational portfolio now includes solar, wind, hybrid and battery energy storage assets, generating more than 52 billion units of clean electricity annually. The company has also outlined plans to expand its battery storage capacity and achieve a 50 GW renewable energy portfolio by 2030.

Adani Green Energy Ltd (AGEL) has crossed 20 GW of operational renewable energy capacity, becoming the first clean energy company in India to achieve the milestone entirely through greenfield development. The company announced the achievement earlier this week, stating that the operational portfolio now generates more than 52 billion units of clean electricity annually.
According to the company, the electricity produced from its renewable energy assets accounts for nearly 3% of India's annual power consumption. AGEL said this level of generation is sufficient to power New York City for an entire year or meet almost the combined annual electricity requirement of Mumbai and New Delhi.
The milestone has been achieved within a decade of commissioning the company's first renewable energy project at Kamuthi, Tamil Nadu, in 2016. AGEL said the accomplishment reflects the scale and pace of its capacity expansion, making it India's largest and fastest greenfield renewable energy capacity addition company.
During FY26, the company added 5,051 MW of renewable energy capacity, which it described as the highest annual renewable capacity addition by any company outside China. The latest expansion contributed significantly to the company's operational portfolio crossing the 20 GW mark.
Commenting on the development, Sagar Adani, Executive Director of Adani Green Energy Ltd, said the milestone demonstrated the company's long-term execution capabilities and strategic vision. He stated that AGEL, supported by its employees and long-standing partners, now supplies renewable electricity almost equivalent to the combined annual power requirement of Mumbai and New Delhi, contributing to India's energy security while supporting the country's transition towards cleaner sources of power.
AGEL's operational portfolio currently comprises approximately 14.2 GW of solar power capacity, 2.7 GW of wind energy projects and 3.3 GW of wind-solar hybrid capacity. Alongside renewable generation assets, the company has also commissioned 3.55 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), which it said represents the world's largest battery storage deployment outside China and one of the fastest such deployments globally.
The company noted that battery storage is becoming increasingly important as renewable energy forms a larger share of India's electricity generation mix. According to Sagar Adani, energy storage systems are essential for delivering reliable and dispatchable clean power while supporting grid stability.
Looking ahead, AGEL plans to commission an additional 10 GWh of battery storage capacity during FY27 and expand its overall battery storage portfolio to 50 GWh over the next five years. These investments form part of the company's broader objective of achieving 50 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030.
AGEL develops, owns and operates utility-scale, grid-connected solar, wind, hybrid and energy storage projects across India, with the latest milestone reinforcing its position as the country's largest renewable energy company by operational capacity.
