The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has intensified efforts to remove encroachments and unauthorised parking along National Highways in a bid to improve road safety and traffic management. The authority has identified 595 critical locations across multiple states where unauthorised parking activities have been reported and is coordinating with state governments, district administrations and enforcement agencies to address the issue. Alongside enforcement measures, NHAI has ordered audits of Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) infrastructure to ensure key safety and monitoring equipment remains operational. The initiative also includes enhanced highway patrolling, deployment of ambulances and recovery vehicles, and integration of monitoring systems with enforcement agencies to strengthen incident response and improve safety standards across the national highway network.Read more

The Delhi government has approved a health scheme offering registered construction workers and their families cashless medical treatment cover of up to INR 10 lakh. The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. Named the Delhi Building and Construction Workers Health Scheme, the initiative is expected to benefit around 2.70 lakh registered workers and cover close to 10 lakh people in total, including family members. The National Highways Authority of India has temporarily suspended concessionaire Shivalaya and independent engineer Feedback-Satra JV from future bidding, following the collapse of a 9.4-metre reinforced soil wall at Mylakkadu in Kollam district on 5 December 2025. The wall, part of the Kollam-Kadambattukonam project on NH-66, failed due to inadequate foundation soil strength. NHAI has issued show-cause notices proposing debarment of up to three years for the concessionaire and two years for the independent engineer, alongside monetary penalties, and ordered soil testing at 378 structures across 18 NH-66 projects in Kerala.Read more

Construction of the final deck slab on Delhi's Barapullah Phase-III elevated corridor was completed this week, physically joining both ends of the structure across the Yamuna River. The project, approved in 2014 and originally due in 2017, was held up for nearly a decade by land acquisition disputes, environmental clearances and forest department approvals, with its cost revised to around INR 1,635 crore. Bihar's rural works department (RWD) has said that more than 3,032 km of rural roads across seven flood-prone districts in north Bihar have been strengthened and surface-renewed ahead of the monsoon. The claim follows flooding in the Mechi river that affected Thakurganj block in Kishanganj district last week, triggered by heavy rainfall in Nepal, which also marginally raised water levels in the Kosi and Gandak rivers.
