• A criminal case has been registered after a forged judicial order was allegedly used to halt action against an unauthorised building in Navi Mumbai's Nerul area.
• The suspected fake interim relief was produced before civic authorities to prevent demolition proceedings.
• A Belapur court directed an investigation after discrepancies emerged in the purported order.
• The incident has raised concerns over misuse of judicial documents and attempts to obstruct action against illegal constructions.
Questions over the integrity of legal proceedings have surfaced in Navi Mumbai after a suspected forged court order was allegedly used to secure temporary relief for an unauthorised structure in Nerul. The episode has now triggered a police investigation, with authorities examining how fabricated judicial documents were allegedly deployed to stall civic action against the building.
The controversy came to light when an interim order purportedly issued by a court in Belapur was submitted before officials to prevent demolition proceedings. However, discrepancies noticed during verification prompted closer scrutiny. Subsequent examination revealed that the document did not match court records, leading judicial authorities to order a formal inquiry into the matter.
Based on the court's directions, an FIR has been registered and investigators are now attempting to identify those responsible for creating and circulating the alleged forged document. Officials are also examining whether the act was part of a larger effort to delay or derail action against unauthorised construction in the area.
The building in question had already come under the scanner of civic authorities over alleged violations. Like many disputed structures in rapidly growing urban pockets, it had become the subject of legal proceedings involving questions over permissions and compliance. The alleged use of a fabricated order, however, has shifted attention from the construction itself to the possibility of judicial records being manipulated.
Legal experts say such incidents strike at the heart of the justice system, as court orders are relied upon by civic agencies, police departments and citizens alike. Any attempt to misuse forged documents to secure relief not only obstructs enforcement mechanisms but also undermines public confidence in judicial processes.
Investigators are expected to scrutinise the origin of the document, communication records and the individuals who submitted it before authorities. If proven, the accused could face charges related to forgery, fabrication of evidence and cheating under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The case has also reignited concerns over unauthorised constructions across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and the increasingly complex legal battles surrounding them. Authorities are likely to tighten verification mechanisms to ensure that civic actions are not derailed by fraudulent claims presented in the guise of judicial protection.
