The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has issued notices to the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), the Haryana State Pollution Control Board and Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam Ltd. after a Haryana-based construction company challenged a closure notice issued against it. The appeal, filed by Ramakrishna Buildwell Pvt Ltd, concerns a CAQM order issued earlier this year. The company had previously approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court, which granted temporary protection against electricity disconnection before the petition was withdrawn. With the interim relief having expired and the power connection subsequently disconnected, the NGT has directed the respondents to submit their replies within two weeks and listed the matter for further hearing on August 11.Read more

The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has invited developer entities to participate in projects under its revised Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) policy, introducing a single-window approval mechanism to simplify clearances. The initiative, announced in the past week, covers land within a 500-metre stretch on either side of metro corridors and a 500-metre radius around rapid rail stations, opening nearly 207 sq km for planned mixed-use development. Developers will submit applications through the DDA's Online Building Permission System (OBPS), with approvals processed by the TOD Committee. The policy aims to promote planned urban development, expand affordable housing, improve metro ridership and enable coordinated growth alongside existing and upcoming metro corridors across Delhi.Read more

The Ladakh administration has approved an interim land-use regulatory framework permitting residential, commercial, industrial and mixed-use development on plots of up to two kanals within Municipal Committee limits without prior approval. Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena approved the framework in the past week to address regulatory uncertainty arising from the absence of notified Master Plans and Zonal Development Plans in the Union Territory. While easing building permissions for permissible activities, the framework continues to prohibit specified Red and Orange category industries, slaughterhouses, commercial animal rearing, stone quarries, storage of inflammable materials and burial grounds or crematoria in designated areas without prior approval. The interim measure will remain in force until statutory planning instruments are notified and municipal committees issue detailed operational guidelines.Read more
