The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) has approved a One-Time Settlement (OTS) scheme to help house tax defaulters clear pending dues by offering relief on accumulated interest and penalties. The initiative aims to improve tax recovery while easing the financial burden on property owners whose outstanding liabilities have increased due to delayed payments and revised property assessments. Civic officials expect the scheme to encourage voluntary compliance, strengthen municipal finances and generate additional revenue for infrastructure development and public services across the city. Eligible property owners will be able to settle their dues within the notified period under the scheme, with the detailed operational framework and implementation guidelines to be announced by the municipal corporation.
The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) has introduced a One-Time Settlement (OTS) scheme for house tax defaulters, offering property owners an opportunity to clear long-pending dues through concessions on accumulated interest and penalties. The initiative is aimed at improving tax collection while providing financial relief to residents burdened by outstanding liabilities.
The decision comes as the civic body seeks to strengthen its revenue base and recover long-pending property tax arrears without resorting to prolonged enforcement measures. According to municipal officials, unpaid taxes have accumulated over several years due to delayed payments and revised property assessments, increasing the financial burden on many property owners. The OTS scheme is expected to facilitate quicker recovery of dues while encouraging voluntary compliance.
Under the scheme, eligible property owners will be allowed to settle their pending house tax liabilities by availing specified concessions on interest and penal charges. While the municipal corporation has approved the framework for the scheme, detailed guidelines regarding eligibility, waiver structure, payment timelines and implementation are expected to be notified separately.
Officials believe the settlement programme will improve the civic body's financial position by increasing revenue collections that can be utilised for urban infrastructure, sanitation, road maintenance, drainage, street lighting and other municipal services. Property tax remains one of the primary revenue sources for local urban bodies, making timely recovery essential for funding development projects.
The initiative also aligns with similar settlement schemes introduced by various urban development authorities in Uttar Pradesh to resolve long-standing tax arrears. By offering temporary relief on interest and penalties, the civic body hopes to encourage defaulters to regularise their tax records instead of facing legal or recovery proceedings.
Municipal authorities have urged eligible property owners to take advantage of the OTS scheme once it becomes operational and complete the settlement process within the prescribed period. The corporation expects the initiative to improve tax compliance, reduce outstanding arrears and strengthen its financial capacity to support future urban development and civic infrastructure projects.
