The Uttar Pradesh Housing and Development Board has generated approximately INR 1,000 crore in revenue through its recent first-come, first-served housing scheme, according to official disclosures. The initiative, launched late last year, allows homebuyers to book unsold units across the state through a centralised online portal that provides comprehensive property details. More than 2,140 flats have been booked so far. To incentivise participation, the board offered a 15 per cent discount for full payments made within 60 days of booking and a 10 per cent rebate for payments completed within 90 days. The scheme, open until the end of March, has helped convert long-standing unsold inventory into booked homes and bolstered housing board revenue, while emphasising transparency and ease of access in the booking process.Read more

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has sealed seven construction sites in Sanpada for failing to implement mandatory air and noise pollution control measures, following directions issued by the Bombay High Court in a suo motu public interest litigation related to rising air pollution. The action was taken after inspections revealed multiple violations of the prescribed Standard Operating Procedures, including inadequate site barricading, lack of dust suppression, absence of protective gear for workers and failure to control dust on adjoining roads. Civic officials stated that despite prior notices warning of stop-work action, developers had not complied with pollution control norms. The sealed sites belong to various developers operating in sectors across Sanpada. The municipal corporation indicated that enforcement will be intensified across all zones in the coming period to curb construction-related pollution.Read more

The Bangalore Development Authority has intensified efforts to educate residents about illegal layouts across the city. After a survey revealed 278 unauthorised settlements, mostly on converted agricultural land, the BDA plans to issue 20-30 public notices explaining legal requirements, mandatory approvals, and responsible authorities. While the state government is framing stricter B-Khata to A-Khata conversion norms to protect buyers, activists caution that blanket amnesty could legitimise poorly planned layouts, complicating civic planning and post-occupancy infrastructure. Authorities urge citizens to verify approvals before investing in any layout.Read more

The Uttar Pradesh government has approved a comprehensive Urban Redevelopment Policy aimed at rejuvenating under-utilised and ageing properties in cities across the state, providing a new roadmap for urban renewal and housing redevelopment. Under the policy, housing development authorities will be empowered to process redevelopment applications from private developers for dilapidated or disputed buildings, ensuring better utilisation of prime city land parcels and improved urban infrastructure. The policy also includes rationalisation of development fees to support urban densification and make development more affordable for local residents. By facilitating private sector participation and streamlining approval processes, the state is seeking to energise stalled or inefficient urban spaces, attract investment, and enhance living conditions in core city areas. The approval marks a key step in Uttar Pradesh's broader urban growth strategy.Read more

Haryana's flagship affordable housing policy has effectively stalled in Gurugram and Faridabad, with developers and industry stakeholders saying that escalating land and construction expenses have made projects under the scheme financially unviable. Officials from the Town and Country Planning Department have confirmed that no new licences for affordable housing projects have been granted in Gurugram over the past one-and-a-half to two years, and the Gurugram-Manesar Master Plan area has not seen any fresh affordable housing developments during this period. Under the current policy, the sale price of affordable units is capped at INR 5,000 per sq ft, but surging input costs have far outpaced this rate, leaving developers unable to meet prescribed price limits. Homebuyers and industry bodies are now urging the state government to revise the pricing framework and make the policy continuous rather than episodic to restore project momentum.Read more
