ED seizes INR 54.82 crore from Reliance Infrastructure over alleged fund diversion

11 Dec 2025

The Enforcement Directorate has seized INR 54.82 crore from 13 bank accounts of Reliance Infrastructure after alleging that the company diverted funds meant for National Highways Authority of India projects. The ED claims the firm moved money abroad through special purpose vehicles under sham sub-contracting agreements, with payments routed to Mumbai-based shell entities in violation of FEMA rules. Investigators say the transactions showed no genuine commercial activity and appeared designed to siphon project funds. Reliance Infrastructure has not commented. The ED also noted that Anil Ambani did not appear for questioning despite being summoned. The probe is part of a broader review of financial compliance in major infrastructure projects.Read more

Navi Mumbai intensifies deep-cleaning and dust control across MIDC corridors

11 Dec 2025

Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has stepped up deep-cleaning and dust-control work across MIDC corridors as part of its wider air-pollution mitigation plan. Beyond routine sanitation, internal MIDC roads are now being cleaned using mechanical brushes and flapper machines, followed by washing with treated water. In Ghansoli ward, a major drive covered the Rabale MIDC stretch from MTNL to Kalpana Hotel, with 30 workers deployed and an encap vehicle used to spray fine mist to reduce airborne dust. A similar effort was carried out on the Siddharthnagar-Fibre Company route. Acting on directives from Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde, ward-level teams are intensifying road-cleaning to improve local air quality.Read more

The crackdown is part of a larger city-wide drive that identified 401 PG units, of which 385 lacked mandatory society or police clearances. Notices were issued, particularly targeting large and multi-flat PG operations rather than individual-house setups. The action follows legal directives and a meeting of city officials and lawmakers demanding enforcement. PG operators have been warned: secure the required approvals or face closure of their properties.Read more

NGT halts Baner project construction over dust and noise pollution violations

11 Dec 2025

The National Green Tribunal's Western Zone Bench has ordered an immediate halt to construction at a residential project in Baner after a neighbouring housing society complained of dust, noise and improper waste handling. The Tribunal reviewed a recent Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) inspection, which flagged missing acoustic barriers, poor storage of raw materials, lack of controlled areas for cutting and grinding, and failure to follow construction-waste rules. Noting that earlier MPCB directions had not been effectively enforced, the NGT directed the Board to act on the developer's reply and ensure no work resumes until proper pollution-control measures are in place. The main case will be heard in April.Read more

Kochi court orders housing society to levy maintenance based on flat size

10 Dec 2025

A recent Kochi order has directed a residential flat-owners association to replace its uniform maintenance fee with a size-based system, requiring charges to be calculated in proportion to each unit's floor area. The ruling followed complaints that flat-rate billing was unfair in a building with differently sized apartments, as smaller-unit owners were effectively subsidising larger ones. The association must now revise its maintenance structure, present audited area data and communicate the updated charges transparently. The decision promotes equitable cost-sharing and may prompt other housing societies in Kochi to reassess their billing practices. It could also influence buyer preferences toward communities with fair, size-linked maintenance policies.Read more

Maharashtra eases subdivision rules to help small urban landowners

10 Dec 2025

The Maharashtra Assembly recently passed an amendment to the Maharashtra Land Revenue Code, making it easier to subdivide small plots in urban areas. The decision is expected to benefit nearly three crore people living on gunthewari plots by removing the need for repeated Non-Agricultural permissions in locations where approved Development Plans or Regional Plans already exist. Landowners can now obtain individual ownership by paying a one-time premium, allowing their names to be added to the 7/12 land record. Opposition members raised concerns about infrastructure and possible advantages to builders, but the government said the move is meant to regularise long-time residents.Read more

Karnataka RERA chair warns homebuyers against accepting deficient real-estate services

10 Dec 2025

Karnataka's real estate regulator has urged homebuyers not to accept substandard or incomplete work from developers, stressing that doing so weakens their rights and allows poor practices to continue. The warning comes amid rising complaints about delays, inferior finishes and deviations from promised specifications. The authority reminded buyers that developers are legally required to meet quality norms, deliver as per approved plans and honour contractual commitments. Buyers have been advised to thoroughly inspect units before possession and formally document any defects to strengthen future claims. The message signals stricter regulatory expectations, pushing developers to improve execution, quality control and transparency to avoid complaints and enforcement action.Read more
