Synopsis

Suzlon has secured a 105 MW wind energy order from Sunsure Energy, marking the first commercial deployment of its newly launched S175 5.0 MW wind turbine. The project will involve the supply, installation, commissioning and maintenance of 21 S175 wind turbine generators in Bijapur, Karnataka. The latest contract, awarded within two weeks of the turbine's launch, also strengthens the long-standing partnership between the two companies, taking their cumulative order book to 400.8 MW in less than 14 months. Suzlon said the S175 is India's tallest and most powerful wind turbine, designed to improve energy generation and expand the viability of wind projects across new locations.

Suzlon has secured a 105 MW wind energy order from Sunsure Energy for the deployment of its newly launched S175 wind turbine, marking the first commercial order for the next-generation technology. Announced in the past week, the project will be executed in Bijapur, Karnataka, where the company will install 21 wind turbine generators (WTGs).
The order represents the commercial debut of Suzlon's S175 5.0 MW wind turbine, which the company introduced only two weeks ago. According to Suzlon, the latest contract is also the third order received from Sunsure Energy within the past 14 months, taking the cumulative capacity awarded by the renewable energy developer to 400.8 MW.
Under the contract, Suzlon will be responsible for the complete project scope, including the supply, erection, commissioning and long-term maintenance of the 21 S175 wind turbine generators.
The S175 has been developed as Suzlon's most advanced wind turbine and is described by the company as India's tallest and most powerful wind turbine. It features a 175-metre rotor coupled with a 160-metre hybrid lattice tower, enabling it to harness stronger and more consistent wind resources at higher elevations.
According to the company, the turbine has been engineered to improve energy generation while enhancing overall project economics. The larger rotor diameter and taller tower are expected to allow developers to utilise locations that were previously considered commercially unviable for wind energy generation, thereby expanding the potential market for utility-scale wind projects.
Commenting on the order, Girish Tanti, Vice Chairman of the Suzlon Group, said Sunsure Energy had commenced its wind energy journey with Suzlon and had since emerged as one of India's largest and fastest-growing commercial and industrial (C&I)-focused renewable energy providers. He added that the latest order reflected the continuing partnership between the two companies and demonstrated growing industry confidence in Suzlon's new wind turbine platform.
The order further strengthens Suzlon's position in India's renewable energy sector as demand for higher-capacity wind turbines continues to grow alongside the country's clean energy expansion plans. The commercial deployment of the S175 is expected to support developers in improving project efficiency while increasing electricity generation from available wind resources.
Suzlon did not disclose the financial value of the contract.
