Synopsis

• MCD intensified action against unauthorised construction across Delhi during 2025.
• Around 4,766 illegal or non-compliant constructions were officially booked by the civic body.
• Authorities issued nearly 3,989 demolition orders under the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act.
• Enforcement actions were carried out on 3,294 properties, including demolitions and sealing drives.
• The drive reflects tighter monitoring of building violations amid rising concerns over structural safety in urban areas.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has stepped up its enforcement against unauthorised constructions across the city, with large-scale action taken during 2025 against buildings violating approved norms and municipal regulations.
According to official civic data, about 4,766 cases of unauthorised construction were registered during the year. These cases include properties found deviating from sanctioned building plans or carrying out construction without valid approvals.
In response, the civic body issued around 3,989 demolition orders under provisions of the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act. The orders form part of routine enforcement powers used to control illegal construction activity and ensure compliance with approved building guidelines.
Out of the total properties booked, enforcement action was executed on 3,294 cases. Within these, 22 structures were fully demolished after being identified as severely non-compliant. Additionally, 2,249 structures underwent partial demolition, while 1,023 properties were sealed to prevent further unauthorised use or construction activity.
The MCD’s action reflects an ongoing monitoring system aimed at tracking violations at different stages of construction. Officials have maintained that such measures are necessary to ensure adherence to building bylaws and prevent unsafe development patterns in densely populated urban areas.
The crackdown also comes amid growing attention on building safety standards in Delhi, particularly after incidents involving structural failures in recent periods. This has led to increased scrutiny of approvals, inspections, and enforcement mechanisms across municipal zones.
