A cyclonic storm that hit the desert region recently caused partial damage at the Bhadla Solar Park in Phalodi district, a 2.25 GW solar energy hub spread across around 56 sq km. The facility hosts over 10 million solar panels installed by multiple private and public companies. While authorities confirmed that only one plant faced disruption, local accounts suggest wider impact across nearby villages. Damage includes uprooted solar panels and affected electricity infrastructure. Restoration work is currently in progress as officials assess the full extent of losses and system disruption.
A cyclonic storm that struck the desert region over the weekend led to damage at the Bhadla Solar Park in Phalodi district, which is one of the largest solar energy generation hubs with a total capacity of 2.25 GW.
The solar park, spread across nearly 56 sq km, has more than 10 million solar panels installed by various private and public companies. According to district administration officials, the overall impact at the site has been limited, with only one plant reporting disruption so far.
Phalodi Collector Ankit Kumar Singh stated that no major large-scale destruction has been recorded across the solar park despite high-velocity winds. He confirmed that only a 300 MW plant developed by Acme Solar Holdings Ltd has suffered some level of damage, and assessment of losses is currently underway.
Outside the solar park, the distribution network operated by RVVNL has also been affected. Reports indicate damage such as fallen poles, uprooted structures, and snapped transmission lines, which disrupted local power supply in nearby areas.
Officials have stated that teams are actively working in the affected regions, and restoration activities are progressing on priority to restore normal electricity supply and infrastructure stability.
However, local sources have suggested that the impact may be more widespread than initially reported. A journalist from the region mentioned that solar installations in villages including Baap, Kanasar, Nikh, and Badi Did have also faced significant damage.
As per official inputs, around 700 solar panels are believed to have been uprooted during the storm, while approximately 800 electricity poles have reportedly fallen in different locations. This has led to disruptions in power distribution in several surrounding villages.
