The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways has approved an INR 334.89 crore internal flyover project at Visakhapatnam Port Authority to improve cargo evacuation and reduce congestion within the port premises. The proposed 3.584-km elevated corridor will connect Convent Junction with the Dock Area and separate road traffic from rail movement. The project is intended to address delays caused by nine railway level crossings, which currently experience around 18 gate closures a day. The Andhra Pradesh government has approved the redevelopment of the Velampeta slum in Visakhapatnam under the Visakhapatnam Economic Region programme, clearing the way for the state’s first major integrated in-situ slum redevelopment project under the initiative. The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation will implement the project on a Design, Build, Finance and Transfer basis, with 177 housing units planned on a 1,986.45 sq m site. The project will use transferable development rights to make redevelopment financially viable and is intended to serve as a pilot for similar projects elsewhere.Read more

Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) has successfully berthed MV Graceous, a 292-metre-long cape-sized bulk carrier, at the EQ-1 berth in its inner harbour, marking a significant operational milestone for the port. The vessel, which has a beam of 45 metres and a draft of 12.2 metres, is among the largest classes of bulk carriers operating globally.
