Bhubaneswar has rolled out a detailed action plan to address the encroachment of around 498 acres of government land across the city. Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi revealed that Jaydev Vihar tops the list with 148 acres affected. The government has formed a Central Enforcement Monitoring Committee (CEMC) and is filing cases under the Odisha Public Premises (Eviction of Unauthorised Occupants) Act. Over 11,000 encroachment cases have been registered, impacting key areas including Chandrasekharpur, Jagamara, Dumduma, and BJB Nagar. The Supreme Court has approved the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to register six new cases involving alleged fraudulent activities between banks and builders, which have impacted homebuyers in Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Mohali, and Prayagraj. The Calcutta High Court has resolved a long-standing issue that was delaying the Orange Line metro construction at Chingrighata. The work had been stalled since early February due to the Kolkata Police not issuing a No Objection Certificate (NOC) required for cordoning off a section of the busy EM Bypass. A meeting involving Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVNL), Metro Railway, Kolkata Police, and state officials resolved the matter. Kerala Chief Minister is set to inaugurate two housing complexes in Mattancherry, near Fort Kochi, built to rehabilitate 394 slum-dwelling families under the Rajiv Awas Yojana. One tower, developed by Kochi Corporation at a cost of INR 41.74 crore, spans 11 floors with 199 flats, parking, lifts, a sewage plant, anganwadi, and 14 shops. The second, built by Cochin Smart Mission Ltd for INR 44.01 crore, has 195 units across 13 floors, rooftop solar panels, and 18 shops. Together, they provide compact 300-350 sq ft flats with modern facilities. Ancillary infrastructure is pending, but once approvals are cleared, families will gain dignified new homes.Read more

The Telangana High Court has questioned the Rangareddy district collector over alleged illegal construction on Bhoodan lands in Nagaram village, Maheswaram mandal.
