Two contract workers lost their lives and another was hospitalised after a carbon dioxide (CO2) gas leak occurred during the annual maintenance of fire extinguishers at Schaeffler India Ltd’s manufacturing facility in Talegaon MIDC, Pune district, on June 10. The incident took place while personnel from a private contractor were servicing fire extinguishers at the plant. Three contractor employees and two company staff members were involved in the maintenance activity when gas leaked from a fire extinguisher cylinder. Police have registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. Schaeffler India operates the Talegaon facility, which manufactures a range of automotive components and bearing products.Read more
