The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) and the National Bank for Financing Infrastructure and Development (NaBFID) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen cooperation in financing infrastructure projects that have a significant impact on rural areas.
The agreement establishes a framework for the two institutions to work together on joint financing, knowledge sharing and the development of innovative financing solutions. The collaboration will focus on increasing the availability of long-term and competitively priced finance for projects that can strengthen rural infrastructure and associated value chains.
The MoU was signed by NABARD Chairman Shri Shaji Krishnan V and NaBFID Managing Director Shri Rajkiran Rai G. The partnership will cover public-private partnership projects, agri-value chains and infrastructure projects with strong rural linkages.
Key areas identified under the collaboration include water and sanitation, irrigation, post-harvest storage and cold-chain facilities. The partnership will also cover terminal markets, rural roads and bridges, warehousing and compressed biogas projects.
The two institutions aim to support projects that can improve connectivity, strengthen market access and build more resilient rural infrastructure. The focus is also aligned with the broader objective of developing infrastructure capable of supporting long-term economic activity in rural areas.
Shri Shaji Krishnan V said the collaboration could help reduce the rural-urban divide and contribute to rural prosperity. He described the MoU as a starting point for closer cooperation between the two institutions in supporting rural infrastructure development.
Shri Rajkiran Rai G said the partnership reflects the complementary strengths of NABARD and NaBFID. He highlighted opportunities to develop commercially viable and bankable projects in areas such as food processing, storage and cold-chain connectivity.
The collaboration is expected to facilitate greater access to long-term funding for commercially viable rural infrastructure projects and allied value chains. By supporting improved infrastructure and market linkages, the initiative aims to contribute to stronger rural economies and higher incomes.
The partnership between NABARD and NaBFID is intended to combine the institutions' respective financing capabilities and sector expertise to support sustainable rural development. The focus on infrastructure and value chains is also expected to strengthen the connection between rural producers, markets and supporting infrastructure.
