Adani Energy Solutions has secured a INR 47 billion (USD 492.6 million) transmission project in Maharashtra to strengthen the state’s renewable energy infrastructure. The project will transmit up to 4,500 MW of renewable and storage power and is scheduled to be completed within 36 months. It will add 562 circuit kilometres of transmission lines and 9,000 MVA of transformation capacity to the company’s portfolio. The network will carry renewable power generated in Karnataka to load centres in Maharashtra and support the pumped-storage ecosystem across Satara, Pune and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
Adani Energy Solutions has won a INR 47 billion (USD 492.6 million) transmission project in Maharashtra as India continues to expand its power transmission network to support the growth of renewable and energy storage capacity.
The project will be capable of transmitting up to 4,500 MW of renewable and storage power and is expected to be completed within 36 months. Once delivered, it will add 562 circuit kilometres of transmission lines and 9,000 MVA of transformation capacity to Adani Energy Solutions’ portfolio.
The transmission network will carry renewable electricity generated in Karnataka to load centres in Maharashtra. It will also support the development of the pumped-storage ecosystem in Satara, Pune and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, according to the company’s exchange filing.
The project includes the development of a new substation in Satara, a transmission line between Kolhapur and Satara, and upgrades to the existing Kolhapur pooling station.
The project comes as India expands its transmission infrastructure to connect new renewable generation and storage capacity with major electricity demand centres. The country is targeting 500 GW of non-fossil fuel power capacity by 2030, requiring additional transmission infrastructure to move electricity from generation hubs to consumption centres.
The expansion of pumped-storage capacity is also expected to play a role in balancing renewable power on the grid, particularly as solar and wind generation increases. Maharashtra has been among the states developing storage and transmission infrastructure to support the integration of additional renewable power.
For Adani Energy Solutions, the project adds to its transmission portfolio while increasing its presence in Maharashtra’s power infrastructure. The company has been expanding its transmission network as India invests in infrastructure required to connect renewable energy projects with industrial and urban demand centres.
