The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has opened a 9-km section of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway between the DND Flyway and Jaitpur for trial traffic, providing a new route between Delhi and Faridabad. The stretch is expected to improve access for commuters from east and south Delhi, as well as Noida and Ghaziabad, towards the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway and destinations such as Jaipur and Sawai Madhopur. Nearly 8.5 km of the section is elevated. The trial is being used to assess traffic movement and operational readiness before formal commissioning.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has opened a 9-km section of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway between the DND Flyway and Jaitpur for trial traffic, creating a new connection between Delhi and Faridabad. The trial began on August 22 and is intended to assess traffic movement, road safety and operational arrangements before the stretch is formally opened.
The newly opened section forms part of the DND-Faridabad-KMP corridor and provides a direct connection from the DND Flyway towards Jaitpur. Around 8.5 km of the 9-km section is elevated, while a smaller portion runs at ground level. The infrastructure includes a structure over the Agra Canal and has been designed to carry traffic towards the existing expressway network.
The opening is expected to provide an alternative route for motorists travelling between east and south Delhi and Faridabad. Commuters from areas around Ashram and Kalindi Kunj can use the new corridor to access the expressway network, while motorists from Noida and Ghaziabad are also expected to gain a more direct route towards the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway.
The Jaitpur-Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) interchange section is already operational. With the DND-Jaitpur portion now under trial, a larger part of the Delhi link to the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway has become available for traffic. Officials have indicated that around 50 km of the 59-km Delhi link between the DND Flyway and its junction with the KMP Expressway has been opened in phases.
During the trial period, traffic arrangements are being monitored to assess how vehicles merge with and exit from the new corridor. The entry and exit points at Jaitpur and Meethapur are not being fully used during the initial trial period. Traffic personnel have also been deployed to guide motorists, while vehicles using the trial section have been subject to controlled speed conditions.
The new connection is expected to reduce dependence on existing congested routes used by traffic between Delhi and Faridabad. Mathura Road and the Ashram-Kalindi Kunj corridor have traditionally carried substantial traffic between the two areas, making the additional expressway connection relevant for daily commuters as well as longer-distance traffic.
The DND-Faridabad-KMP corridor is being developed as an access-controlled road connection linking Delhi with Faridabad and the KMP Expressway. It also forms part of the wider road infrastructure being developed to strengthen links between Delhi-NCR and the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway.
The corridor is expected to provide onward access towards destinations including Jaipur and Sawai Madhopur once the relevant sections are fully operational. The broader Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is being developed as a major access-controlled corridor connecting the national capital with western and central parts of the country.
The trial opening will allow NHAI and other agencies to observe traffic patterns, identify operational issues and make necessary adjustments before formal commissioning. The timing of full commercial operation will depend on the completion of the remaining requirements and the outcome of the trial process.
