Delhi’s Public Works Department is developing a skywalk-cum-foot overbridge at Madhuban Chowk on the Outer Ring Road, with about 60% of the work completed and the facility targeted to be ready by November 30, 2026. The INR 9.62 crore project is intended to provide grade-separated pedestrian connectivity between Pitampura Metro Station, Madhuban Chowk Metro Station and Rohini District Court. It will also facilitate movement between the Red and Magenta Metro lines while reducing the need for pedestrians to cross the busy road junction at ground level.
Construction of the INR 9.62 crore skywalk-cum-foot overbridge at Madhuban Chowk in north-west Delhi is around 60% complete, with the Public Works Department targeting November 30, 2026 for completion. The project is being developed along the Outer Ring Road to provide a dedicated pedestrian route connecting the nearby Metro stations and Rohini District Court.
The facility is being planned at a busy road junction serving Pitampura, Rohini and surrounding areas. Its primary purpose is to move pedestrian traffic away from the carriageway and provide an elevated crossing over the Outer Ring Road. The arrangement is expected to reduce interaction between pedestrians and vehicles at the junction.
A major component of the project is the connection between Pitampura Metro Station and Madhuban Chowk Metro Station. The latter forms part of the Magenta Line and provides an interchange with the Red Line. The proposed elevated connection is intended to make transfers between the two Metro corridors easier by providing a dedicated route between the stations.
The infrastructure will also provide access towards Rohini District Court. This will create a direct pedestrian connection for people travelling between the Metro network and the court complex, including commuters, lawyers, court staff and visitors. Local residents using the surrounding commercial and residential areas are also expected to use the facility.
The project is being executed as a grade-separated pedestrian facility, allowing people to cross the busy road without moving through traffic at street level. This is particularly relevant at Madhuban Chowk, where substantial pedestrian and vehicular movement converges around the Metro stations and adjoining destinations.
The project has an approved cost of INR 9.62 crore and is being implemented by the Delhi PWD along the Outer Ring Road. The latest progress assessment puts construction at approximately three-fifths complete, with the remaining work scheduled to be undertaken ahead of the November-end deadline.
The project also forms part of efforts to improve last-mile connectivity around Delhi’s Metro network. The opening of Madhuban Chowk Metro Station has increased the importance of providing a practical pedestrian connection between the two Metro corridors and nearby destinations. Without a dedicated link, passengers changing between the lines have faced the need to navigate the junction at road level.
Once completed, the skywalk and FOB are expected to provide a continuous elevated route for pedestrians while supporting smoother movement along the Outer Ring Road. The infrastructure is also intended to make access to public transport more convenient for people travelling to and from the surrounding areas.
The November 30 target will require the remaining construction and associated access infrastructure to be completed before the facility can be opened for public use. The project’s final utility will depend on the availability of the pedestrian connections and supporting facilities required for commuters to move safely between the Metro stations, court complex and surrounding areas.
