A crane tilted and fell towards an adjoining structure while it was being positioned for demolition work at Building No. 1, Bhandari Metallurgy in Kurla. The crane had been brought to the site, but operations had not yet started when the incident occurred. The soft ground at the location appears to have affected the crane’s stability during positioning. Some people sustained minor injuries, following which the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) arranged medical assistance. Machinery and manpower were also mobilised to remove the fallen crane, while the site was secured as precautionary measures were put in place.
Demolition work was underway at Building No. 1, Bhandari Metallurgy in Kurla when a crane brought to the site tilted and fell towards an adjoining structure. The crane had been positioned for the demolition activity, but its operations had not commenced at the time of the incident.
According to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), the ground at the site was soft, which appears to have affected the stability of the crane while it was being positioned.
Some people sustained minor injuries in the incident. MMRDA said it was providing the injured persons with the necessary medical assistance and support.
Following the incident, MMRDA immediately deployed the required machinery and manpower to the site. Removal of the fallen crane was taken up on priority to clear the affected area and restore safety at the location.
The site has also been secured, with precautionary measures being taken to prevent further risks while the removal work is carried out.
