The new crossing was expected to provide a dependable connection and reduce the period for which villages could remain isolated. 
The collapse has now reversed that intended benefit. With the bridge no longer usable, residents of several villages have once again been affected by disrupted road connectivity. The development is particularly significant for communities in remote parts of Gadchiroli, where alternative routes can involve longer travel distances and may also be vulnerable to monsoon-related disruptions. 
The incident comes during the monsoon, when heavy rainfall can put considerable pressure on bridges, culverts and roads across Maharashtra.
