Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has said the newly inaugurated Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport at Bhogapuram will play a pivotal role in the development of north Andhra, describing the project as a major infrastructure asset capable of transforming the region's economic landscape. The nearly INR 5,000 crore airport was inaugurated recently by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Speaking at a public meeting following the inauguration ceremony, Naidu said the airport would become the "jewel" of north Andhra and serve as a catalyst for the region's future growth. He compared its potential impact with that of the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad, which he said had significantly altered the development trajectory of Telangana after its commissioning.
According to the Chief Minister, the Bhogapuram airport is expected to strengthen connectivity, support regional development and create new opportunities for economic activity across north Andhra. Improved air infrastructure is expected to facilitate business travel, tourism, logistics and investment, while enhancing the region's integration with national and international markets.
Naidu also expressed gratitude to the farmers of Bhogapuram who parted with their land for the development of the airport. He said their contribution had made the project possible and described their decision as an investment in the future of Andhra Pradesh.
The Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport has been developed at an estimated cost of nearly INR 5,000 crore and represents one of the state's largest recent aviation infrastructure projects. The airport is expected to complement the government's broader efforts to improve transport infrastructure and support industrial, commercial and tourism-led growth in the region.
The inauguration of the airport marks a significant addition to Andhra Pradesh's aviation network, with the project aimed at improving regional connectivity and supporting long-term economic development in north Andhra. The state government expects the new airport to play an important role in attracting investment and strengthening the region's position as an emerging growth corridor.
