Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for infrastructure projects worth nearly INR 18,000 crore in Andhra Pradesh, spanning aviation, semiconductors, renewable energy transmission and highways. The initiatives include the inauguration of the Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport at Bhogapuram, a semiconductor manufacturing facility in Visakhapatnam, major power transmission infrastructure and several National Highway projects aimed at improving connectivity and supporting industrial growth across the state.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for infrastructure projects valued at nearly INR 18,000 crore in Andhra Pradesh, covering aviation, semiconductor manufacturing, renewable energy transmission and road infrastructure. The projects are expected to strengthen industrial development, improve regional connectivity and support the state's economic growth.
The Prime Minister inaugurated the INR 5,000 crore Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport at Bhogapuram in Vizianagaram district. The airport has been developed to improve air connectivity in north Andhra Pradesh and support trade, tourism and investment in the region.
Among the major industrial initiatives, Modi laid the foundation stone for the INR 460 crore ASIP Semiconductor Project at Visakhapatnam. The facility, being developed by ASIP Technologies Pvt Ltd in partnership with APACT of the Republic of Korea, is Andhra Pradesh's first semiconductor manufacturing unit approved under the India Semiconductor Mission. According to the government, the plant will have the capacity to manufacture around 96 million semiconductor chips annually, strengthening India's domestic electronics manufacturing ecosystem.
The Prime Minister also launched a series of renewable energy transmission projects to facilitate the evacuation of clean power from renewable energy zones in Andhra Pradesh. These include the Transmission System for Integration of Kurnool-IV Renewable Energy Zone (Phase-I), a 4.5 GW project to be implemented by POWERGRID through a Special Purpose Vehicle at an investment of around INR 5,550 crore.
In addition, foundation stones were laid for transmission systems supporting the Kurnool Wind Energy Zone and Solar Energy Zone (Part A and Part B) at a cost of approximately INR 3,550 crore, along with transmission infrastructure for the Anantapuram Solar Energy Zone (2,500 MW) and Kurnool (1,000 MW) projects involving investments of more than INR 820 crore.
According to the government, these transmission projects will enable the evacuation of renewable energy generated in Kurnool and Anantapuram, improve the availability of clean power across demand centres, strengthen the National Grid and contribute to India's transition towards cleaner sources of energy.
Further, the Prime Minister dedicated to the nation and laid the foundation stone for National Highway projects worth over INR 1,880 crore. The road infrastructure package includes the four-lane access-controlled greenfield highway from Racherla to Guravayigudem on NH-365BG, the four-lane access-controlled greenfield highway from Guravayigudem to Devarapalle on NH-365BG, and the four-lane Tadipatri Bypass on NH-67.
He also laid the foundation stone for a high-level bridge at Lingasamudram on the Penchalakona–Yerpedu section of NH-565.
The government said these highway projects are expected to ease congestion in Vijayawada and surrounding cities, enhance road safety, reduce travel distance and journey time between Visakhapatnam and Hyderabad, and strengthen regional connectivity across Andhra Pradesh.
