Indian Hotels Company (IHCL), the Tata Group-owned hospitality company, has opened the 181-key Taj Palace in Lucknow, marking the launch of its second Taj hotel in the Uttar Pradesh capital. The hotel was inaugurated by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday. IHCL said the opening reflects Lucknow's growing importance as an economic and tourism centre, supported by infrastructure development, investment and rising visitor activity. The company currently operates a portfolio of 60 hotels across more than 20 cities in Uttar Pradesh, further expanding its hospitality presence in the state.
The opening of Taj Palace adds another premium hospitality property to Lucknow's expanding accommodation landscape. Located in the Uttar Pradesh capital, the new hotel brings the Taj brand's presence in the city to two properties.
The hotel comprises 181 keys and was inaugurated by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday. The launch comes as Lucknow continues to develop its position as an important centre for business, tourism and investment activity in the state.
IHCL Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Puneet Chhatwal said cities such as Lucknow are gaining importance as India's economic and tourism activity expands. He attributed the city's growing relevance to factors including infrastructure development, increasing investment and rising visitor numbers.
The company said the new property reflects its continued commitment to Uttar Pradesh, where IHCL has built a sizable hospitality network. Its portfolio in the state currently comprises 60 hotels spread across more than 20 cities.
Lucknow's established position as a cultural and tourism destination also provides a base for the expansion of organised hospitality supply. The city is known for its architectural landmarks, cultural heritage and traditional cuisine and arts, attracting both leisure and business visitors.
Santosh Shetty, General Manager of Taj Palace, Lucknow, said the property has been designed to reflect the changing character of the city. The hotel combines contemporary design with nature-inspired elements and is positioned as a modern hospitality destination in the city's newer development areas.
The launch also adds to the growing presence of branded hotels in Lucknow as the city develops its wider urban and economic infrastructure. Additional hospitality capacity can support business travel, events and tourism while catering to visitors seeking established hotel brands.
For IHCL, the opening strengthens its footprint in Uttar Pradesh and expands its presence in one of the state's principal urban centres. With 60 hotels across the state, the company has established a broad network that spans multiple cities and segments.
The opening of the 181-key Taj Palace therefore marks both an expansion of IHCL's Lucknow operations and another addition to the city's organised hospitality inventory. Its performance will be closely linked to the continued growth of business activity, tourism and infrastructure-led development in the capital.
