#Infrastructure News#Infrastructure#India
Synopsis

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has expanded the online FASTag Local Pass facility to 121 toll plazas across the country, allowing eligible commuters to apply for monthly passes through the Rajmargyatra Mobile App. The facility removes the need to visit toll plazas physically or submit documents manually. Commuters living within 20 km of an eligible toll plaza can apply online, with their residential address and vehicle details verified through DigiLocker, VAHAN and GIS-based checks. The initiative is aimed at making local toll travel more convenient while improving transparency and efficiency in toll operations.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has extended its online FASTag Local Pass facility to 121 toll plazas across the country, allowing eligible commuters to apply for monthly passes without visiting toll plazas.
The facility enables commuters to subscribe to the monthly local pass through the Rajmargyatra Mobile App. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways said the online process removes the need for physical visits and manual submission of supporting documents.
The Digital Local Pass facility was first introduced in July at the Mundka-Bakkarwala toll plaza on Delhi's Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II). Following the initial rollout, the facility has now been expanded to 121 toll plazas.
Under the system, commuters residing within a 20 km radius of an eligible toll plaza can apply for the Local Pass through the Rajmargyatra app. The pass allows eligible users unlimited travel through the respective toll plaza during the month, subject to applicable provisions.
Previously, commuters applying for a local pass had to visit the concerned toll plaza and submit documents to establish their residential address within the prescribed 20 km radius, along with other eligibility documents.
The digital process uses consent-based integration with government platforms such as DigiLocker and VAHAN to retrieve and verify information including the applicant's residential address, vehicle details and linked FASTag.
Eligibility is also checked through GIS-based verification, which determines whether the applicant's registered address falls within the required 20 km radius of the toll plaza.
NHAI said the expansion is part of efforts to use technology to make national highway travel more seamless and improve transparency and efficiency in tolling operations. The list of toll plazas covered under the facility is available on the Rajmargyatra portal.
