The Assam Cabinet has approved administrative sanction for INR 2,100 crore towards the first phase of land acquisition and development of the proposed Aerotropolis Satellite City near Guwahati airport. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the total land acquisition requirement for the project is estimated at around INR 4,000 crore, with discussions with landowners already underway. The satellite city is planned as a major urban development project around the airport and is expected to support the expansion of Guwahati’s urban infrastructure and economic activity. The Cabinet’s decision provides funding for the initial stage of land acquisition and development. The state government also approved a draft lease deed between Assam Industrial Development Corporation Ltd and Indian Hotels Company Ltd for a Taj Gateway Hotel at Jagiroad, which is expected to serve the ecosystem developing around Tata’s upcoming semiconductor facility.
The Assam Cabinet has approved INR 2,100 crore for the first phase of land acquisition and development of the proposed Aerotropolis Satellite City near Guwahati airport, providing financial clearance for the initial stage of the large-scale urban development project.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the Cabinet had granted administrative approval for the utilisation of INR 2,100 crore towards land acquisition and development of the satellite city. The total cost of acquiring land for the project is estimated at around INR 4,000 crore.
The state government has already begun discussions with landowners, with the land acquisition process currently underway. The first-phase allocation is intended to support the initial acquisition and development requirements of the proposed satellite city.
The Aerotropolis Satellite City is being planned near Guwahati airport as part of Assam’s efforts to support the city’s future urban expansion. The project is expected to create additional space for development around the airport and strengthen the infrastructure base of the wider Guwahati region.
The Cabinet decision comes alongside other measures aimed at supporting infrastructure and economic development in Assam. It approved a draft lease deed between Assam Industrial Development Corporation Ltd and Indian Hotels Company Ltd for the development of a Taj Gateway Hotel at Jagiroad.
According to the Chief Minister, the proposed hotel will serve the emerging economic ecosystem around Tata’s upcoming semiconductor facility in Jagiroad. The hotel project is expected to add hospitality infrastructure to an area where industrial activity is set to increase with the development of the semiconductor facility.
The Cabinet also approved several other measures, including a relaxation allowing members of the Moran and Matak communities aged 18 years and above to apply for fresh Aadhaar enrolment until March 31, 2027. The relaxation was earlier extended to Tea Tribes and Adivasi communities.
For small tea growers, the Cabinet approved a zero agriculture tax provision for net income up to INR 10 lakh. It also cleared a revised payment structure for the Foreign Language Training-cum-Implementation Partner under the CM-FLIGHT programme, under which each candidate will receive INR 1.50 lakh in four instalments.
The INR 2,100 crore allocation for the Aerotropolis Satellite City represents the first major funding commitment towards the project’s land acquisition. With the total land requirement expected to cost around INR 4,000 crore, further funding and development decisions will be required as the project progresses.
